New electric truck fleet under scrutiny

Senior Motoring Journalist Paul Gover has taken aim at Prime Minister Anthony Albanese spruiking the delivery of a new fleet of electric trucks.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese labelled the fleet a “game changer”.

“These are vehicles that are going to do short-haul deliveries around cities,” Mr Gover told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“The other thing is, 48 I think they are delivering – and the total is going to be 60 electric trucks.

“Well, there are over 150,000 trucks on Australian roads at the moment … 60 trucks against 150,000?”

  1. Hay albo. I pay between $6-900 dollars per week in taxes. Stop wasting my and every Australian tax payer’s money on this nonsense. You and Chris Bowen should go away and let someone sensible run the country

  2. I work for TGE and it is the taxpayer who is paying for them and not TGE.
This is just one of the many reasons i will never vote for the 2 major parties. I bet i know what government people are investing in TGE right now.

  7. OMG, we do not need any short haul, city driving electric trucks. This is a big country, so we need trucks that can actually leave the city and go further. We have small3r trucks for that. He's our game changing id..t. He is kidding, isn't he?!!!! He should bring back car manufacturing here to Australia as we did that so well, and we could build a small and medium Australian designed sedan, hatch and small SUV, something we could sell overseas and for Australian conditions, with an Australian badge, (like AMM (Aussie Made Motors) or something Aussie and Indigenous (*AIM*) combined, using some recycled metals, plastics, rubber, glass, wiring etc to keep costs lower and make it a hybrid, electric and unleaded. That would be smarter. There are cars, trucks, airplanes etc., sitting in junkyards/wrecking yards around Australia whose materials should be cleverly resourced, processed down correctly and can be recycled and repurposed and made stronger. We could also repurpose some of the car factories to be state of the art low emission factories, and lessen our importing but also be open to exporting some.
My father proudly worked for Holdens from 1943 to 1993 (50yrs). He always believed Australia needed to design and build it's own cars. It's something Australia built well, because our steel etc. was the best and still is. Our 2 parties have just f'd us over for years, since the deaths of Curtin and Chifley really, both parties.
He really does not have the nous to do anything to help this country grow and thrive. He is an embarass
ment, and a claustrophobic heavy weight around Aussies necks, dragging us down, if he does that with trucks and semi's etc. DON'T WASTE OUR RESOURCE'S AND MONEY ON THIS B.S. FFS. (Where is Dexter when you need him!!!!)

  8. The 60 trucks are just the beginning. Then come the solar panels and the battery pack at the facility. The trucks charge at night when the sun doesn't shine so a very large back up battery is needed to charge a large number of trucks simultaneously at night. The answer to the question 'why do this' is apparently because 'it is modern'…

  9. Why are those professions who need a vehicle to be ready to go at a moments notice (Real Estate agents for example) returning their EV’s and buying ICE cars , and re happy to lose money in the process ?

  10. So you brought these trucks in and as is we have barely have enough infrastructure to power these these EV trucks. As most of our electricity comes from coal. Couldn’t he and his government wait at least until there is more charging stations around Australia. Not to mention that thanks to hydrogen powered cars in production, EVs would be due to become obsolete in the near future.
