My grandad (98 years old) grew up there and he's currently the oldest person from there. He and his family used to house someone from the band of brothers and his grandparents owned the blue boar pub during that time. He knew exactly where all of the soldiers were camped. My grandad, walter john brown is currently on end of life care and he watched this along side me in excitement seeing his past beitn shown.
this is great, brilliant to see Tony back
I had a great uncle who died at the battle of the bulge. His remains were in a very tiny box. I don't know what outfit he was in but I don't think he was airborne. My dad was in the Pacific on Saipan and Tinian. Another uncle was captured in the Philippines. He survived Bataan. He remained very thin the rest of his life.
How is this 97 minutes?
Oh, hang on – forget it, I don't care.
WWII? That's not archaeology, that's council road works.
{:o:O:}
Why bother, soon the third world which y'all are importing at break neck speed, will erase and rename and rewrite all this history. Our grandparents died so that third world freeloaders could have a "better (free) life". Chumps.
Why is time team online and not on TV anymore. Really miss it
Loved this story and the dig. Well done all. Why is this not on the TV. Hats off to all at time team.
Ok, i looked through the comments here and googled it…but what the heck is a VD movie. Please dont laugh. π
Did they find the bench Forest guff sat on?.
Love the world war stuff and the history stuff knowing the guys die in the battlefield and good to see Tony again
See how great men were they even after nearly 100 years people appriciating and making money on their nam π
We, we, we, did this and did that. We're not paying you by the hour, just by the month, more than any of us could earn in a year. Occasional references to methodology are useful when pertinent to an unusual result, of course….but just a tip : tell us whatever information you have, which may interest your audience, and fu** off home, ok ? Job done. π. Media types are so narcissistic it makes normal people (those who contribute tangible benefits / necessities to society) sick. Despite the usually informative scripts which people like Tony Robinson and (the far less egotistical and higher pitched) Mary Beard insist on delivering to camera themselves, it may event occur to them to let someone younger deliver the material to camera. Everyone loves their grandparents, but no one wants to snog them up close…for an hour….π. OK? Prego. Keep up the work.π
Is this a new one?
Knowing the character of David Webster played by Eion Bailey in Band of Brothers and to see Davids manuscript, thats so freaking cool. I've watched band of brothers at least ten times, so seeing their connection to aldbourne during their stay like the tree carvings, really makes this special even more special and thoroughly interesting.
I really enjoyed seeing most of the team back again. There is still an appetite for this sort of thing so come on tv channels pull your fingers out and get it sorted out eh.
Well done. A nice tribute to great men.
The only Airborne drop in the Ardennes- battle of the Bulge was made by the Germans. It failed badly . Because of the visibility.
The units of the 18th airborne corps, the 82nd airborne and 101st airborne were matched into the battle
What a great episode of Time Team. Although I don't think I've ever seen a bad one…
I've had modern army rations during an emergency and it's pretty awful, but if there's no way to cook or any other food, it's food, sort of.
Love this longer format! Having our vets participate made it extra meaningful. Thanks.
Very well done. Thank you. (I have looked on Google Earth for where my barracks were in 1969-1970 Vietnam. The only trace of Camp Enari near Plieku is the perforated steel planking (PSP) set in concrete that was our airfield. Now used by the locals to dry tobacco and coffee beans.)
good to see tony back
that other guy sends you to sleep
Thanks Time TeamππΌβπΌπ€πΌβ€
Beautiful. But, It made me miss my Late Dad. He was a tail gunner in the eighth Army Air. He would have been 99 this year.
@ 34:40: Did he say that that jackknife was Korean? How? That's virtually historically impossible!
'Cassie'? Really?
Well done. Appreciate the 'old allies' trans-pond input.
8 days!
Hearing and seeing Tony on Time Team again is exactly what I needed. (Completely unrelated question: Anyone know what model of RV/camper van that is that Matt has?)
