Yes, the darker interpretation makes more sense to me given everything else we know about the planning of the coup by trump and his traitorous cronies. I don't trust anything out of the mouth of Pence or those who are speaking on his behalf. But what's clear is that Pence stayed, carried out his required duties and allowed the certification to be completed, thwarting the coup attempt. It may have been one of his very few moments of courage and honoring his oath during the trump reign of destruction and corruption. I think he would have acceded to trump's wishes he could have been given a solid rationale for failing to certify the electoral count. He never got that rationale, though I'm sure he sought it. His completion of the certification process was commendable but not by much. And I feel sure, as the video suggests, that Pence knew leaving the capitol would mean he would probably not return, and in fact might very well end up dead.

The case should be submitted in Judge Cannon's court. Let us see how she rules on that. Because as per Cannon, Ex-Presidents retain their executive privilege. And is privilege going to be by seniority, or the one closest in proximity to the date they were released from office for their service?
