New cars to be subjected to tough emissions standards from 2025

From next year, new cars sold in Australia will be subjected to tough emissions standards with the goal of driving emissions down and accelerating the uptake of electric vehicles.

The rules are supposed to impose a cap on the total emissions that can be produced by any one manufacturer’s fleet of cars.

They will need to reduce the total emissions of their fleet by more than 60 per cent by 2030 or they get fined.

No specific models of cars will be banned but there are concerns consumers could face higher prices on popular models including Utes and four-wheel drives.

Australian Automotive Dealer Association CEO James Voortman spoke with Sky News Australia about the matter.

  1. And they will make parts unavailable for older cars forcing you to buy a new car watch how many people will be using public transport it wont be able to cope. ALP is trying to destroy this country.

  2. Every time you buy a 2nd car you need a roadworthy, this doesn't include emissions testing unless its apparently obvious you have messed with the emissions system or something is badly wrong with it. In the UK for a long time you have had to have regular emissions tests just to be able to keep your car registered. They will introduce this here if this government isn't voted out.

  3. Labor is making to many people nervous. That should make labor very nervous about getting – re-elected. Labor just keep shooting themselves in the foot. Not one of their polices – ever delivers – anything that works. Shows you the mid range narcissist abysmal albo is. It's not his fault. Well yes it is.

  4. Bill Shortens making Utes extinct stupidity rises again, and this from the newly converted Bowen hugging gas cylinders or lying through his teeth to win the next election, (clearly lying). A Climate Emergency nutjob with his shi..y track record doesn't convert overnight, or never converts only tries harder to prove he is stupid!
