There has been a recent Beatles discovery! A tape from their April 4, 1963 show at the Stowe Boarding School. Almost 1 hour long! Matt offers his thoughts on it.
Canβt wait to hear this, makes you wonder what else is out there, hidden in someoneβs atticβ¦ The Beatles also took requests from the lucky audience during the show!
Good morning sir Thank you very much for this information I did not know about this newly discovered Beatles tape Wowπππ this is very exciting and I hope that they release it on CD so that we can all listen to it It would also be very nice if we got a cleaned version of the star club tapes because those are also a piece of Beatles history and fact, a few months ago when you did a video about them, I remembered that I have never had those in my collection because the CD version is not easy to find anymore so I hope that they release them officially and I thank you for reminding me about those as well God bless you and your family and I will hear you on the next video
Matt – Just like in classic early Beatles style, events and circumstances that seem miraculously timed just simply fall into line. Before this unbelievable announcement I wouldn't have dreamed of a 60th anniversary PPM Giles remix (unless it was packaged as a set with WTB. But now?! I think you're right, Matt. Or at least I hope you are. With the inclusion of a Peter-Jackson-ized / Giles mixed version of the Stowe School tape – all the old bets are off. Fingers are now tightly crossed for the typical early-Beatles-timing miracle to come to fruition.
Btw, you can hear a few snippets of the Stowe School tape here on the new radio broadcast with Mark Lewisohn as special guest: https://youtu.be/G-Pb1-jh9Kg
Matt, Wow!!!! Just when you think you can't be surprised by anything Beatle related along comes something like this. I love your idea of a Deluxe Box Set of "Please Please Me" with this included….Thanks again for your efforts at getting the word out concerning things that might otherwise be missed by those of us who really care….All the best, LT
Matt, this is great news, Please , Please Me Deluxe awesome, Iβm ready for that, 22tracks Matt so fantastic, canβt wait, Stow Boarding School, 1963 yeah, yeah, Matt My Friend Thank You, Thank You, TakeCare, BeSafe, and Get Ready, Steve
Hey Matt, I hope something comes of this before someone gets their hands on it, throws is up on Youtube and cheapens it by making it free. That's the problem with the internet, it makes everything common and cheap. I really do hope that something inteligent is done with this tape. Take care…
Great idea for a Please, Please Me box, Matt, but as exciting as this is, we'll probably all be dead by the time Apple gets around to releasing it, if ever. Wasn't there as tape recorded in Spain as well, that has never been uncovered ?
This will not be officially released. Understandably because it's The Beatles, the media is going to make a huge deal over this recording and indeed from a historical perspective it is a lost gem and should be preserved for posterity. However, to my knowledge as of April, 2023 Apple has not made overtures towards obtaining a copy of the recording likely because given the selection from the recording that were broadcast on Monday by the BBC, it's not up to releasable standards. Now granted in the twenty-first century there are opportunities to work with recordings of independent origin and bring them up to decent audio fidelity but Apple has never shown any interest in working with recordings of this nature. They've had for example in their possession since the nineties, the Star Club material from December of 1962 as well as one (possibly two) Cavern Club performances from the summer of 1962 both recorded on audio equipment similar to the Stowe tape. In fact, the Star Club recordings to my ears anyhow sound slightly better than the Stowe recording and Apple has staunchly refused to work with those tapes. The quality of the Cavern Club performances is unknown other than an indication that the material from that tape was previewed during the preparation for The Beatles: Anthology but ultimately deemed to be too low fidelity to work with. Again I understand the excitement and the anticipation, but this will not be an official release. In fact, fans hoping to hear selections from this recording should probably hope that Apple doesn't acquire the Stowe concert as it will likely be shuttered away for decades as has been the custom for live and radio recordings they've obtained the rights but for one reason or another don't feel is suitable for release.
BEST BEATLES NEWS EVER in 2023, I'd take a PPM box w/ this live document over a Rubber Soul box. Besides, I already have Papa Martin RS remix, original and mono mix.
I have heard a few snippets of this and I was not impressed. Yes there is no screaming fans and it was being played thru a PA speaker but to me the quality is not that stellar.
Hey Matt. It's Mario. I gotta say. I'm kinda jealous of yooos out there who get to have Fest For Beatles Fans out on the East Coast side. I wished they'd bring it back over here in the West Coast side in LA. Anyhoo Matt. Take care. βοΈ n π β€οΈ

They could add The Beatles' EMI House performance to the "Please Please Me" box set as well. Done the day after this "new" 1963 tape.

I would buy this as a stand-alone cd if it was released as such. This would be a great addition along with the Hollywood Bowl concerts.
