AZUKA MOWETA AND HIS ANIOMA
BROTHERS BAND – Ekobe Global
Nigerian singer Azuka Anthony Moweta hails from Asaba, Delta state. He has excelled for years as a composer, a lead, and a backup singer. With great Live performance skills. His music is rooted in his culture, heritage and love for humanity.
His style of music could be best described as Ekobe music, fused with Igbo Highlife, rendered with his Asaba accent which give his music a distinct feel different from what we’ve heard around before now.
Ekobe music as a style of music that incoperates Igbo musical instruments such as Pot (Udu), Long Gong (Ogene), Maracas (Ichaka), wood block (Okpokoro), Native drum (Igba) and other conventional musical instruments accompanied with chants. It is a style of music that represents a people, their struggles and lifestyle. It is an embodiment of culture and heritage through sounds and melodies. Ekobe music is as old as the Igbo race but has remained untapped. Azuka took it upon himself to distinctively project Ekobe music globally, fusing it with Highlife. This choice and journey has remained an adventure for him and his music is loved by all and sundry.
Azuka started his musical journey from a tender age being part of a child group in his community under the mentor-ship of Mrs. Ogbuoba whom the singer cited as his great musical influence. The group sang for the sole purpose of entertaining and motivating and all through his childhood Traverses, Azuka never stopped singing and writing. Music remains his biggest tool of escape through life challenges.
Azuka is a great performer who leads his “Anioma Brothers Band”. Anioma people are a subgroup of the Igbo ethnic group in Delta State, Nigeria. They are made up of communities which span across 9 Local government areas and speak different varieties of the Igbo language, including the Enuani language, Ukwuani language, and the Ika-Igbo language.
The farther away you go from Onicha after the Niger bridge and heading towards Agbor and Benin city, the deeper the dialect. They occupy Delta North Senatorial District, which consists of the Enuani (Oshimili/Aniocha), Ika, and Ukwuani/Ndokwa linguistic zones of Delta State.
Anioma means “Good Land” in the Igbo Language and they have an estimated total population of approximately 1.8 million people.
Azuka has laudably worked with renowned singer like Morocco Maduka both as a composer and backup singer. With the resolution to finally move from the shadow of a back up singer, Azuka went solo in 2018 and over the years he has released two albums titled “Olisa nara ekele” and “Soso chi na edu m”.
