Nazi Spies in New York – WW2 Documentary Special

On a snowy night, two tall men are walking along the highway on the coast of Maine. They could hardly be more suspicious. They wear light European coats, no hats, large suitcases, and they leave a trail of footprints down to the beach… These strange men are German spies on the hunt for America’s biggest secrets!

  1. I'm really curious about how ze germans got knowledge of the Manhattan Project in the first place. Especially given how cockeyed their foreign intelligence seemed to be at the time… 🤔

  2. I have a book on U-123 during Operation Drumbeat. This was the initial U-boat attack on the US east coast. It was printed in 2010 and I don't recall it mentioning any of this. I think this all happened after that operation.

  3. Honestly, it sounds sort of cool to come ashore just to be able to say that you invaded America. But it also makes the war almost farcical at this point, as if an invasion of American soil is just something those guys did to check it off their greatest tourism sites and will definitely tell the grandkids about it. Of course, I think I'd be offended if they didn't tell the grandkids too!

Oh, and, that is a freaking awesome cat! Love you ladies!

  4. Something occurred to me, we hear fair bit about British Spies, ‘Murican spies, German Spies, and we even got a bit about Japanese Spies, but we don’t hear much about (Mussolini era) Italian Spies. I’d be hard pressed to even name their spy agency.

Btw, a relative of mine has been learning about the Second World War through the channel and couldn’t place “Purple” as the code name of the Japanese code JN-25. I’m so ashamed.

  5. I live in Nianitc, bit odd to hear that mentioned but I had heard of William Colepaugh before. Niantic is actually pronounced (n-eye-ant-tic) as opposed to (Knee-ant-tic)

  7. I was wondering why the spies went to New York? Had they learned the name of the bomb initiative was the "Manhattan Project?" 😉 Does anyone know the political leanings of the cat? In any event he/she is clearly a saboteur! Great story Ladies!! 🐈‍⬛ 🔎<🔬>🔍

  8. "You're our best English speaker" is hardly a great qualification to infiltrate Manhattan. How on earth were German spy agencies so 'mum & pop shop'? It has been a theme all war. Sure, they used collaborators cleverly for internal security, but strategic intelligence assets were ~non-existent.
Btw, you ladies look ready to interrogate a suspect, but who is the good cop? Tbh, I'd be nervous lol.
