In July of 1966, I boarded APA 45 HENRICO (a troop transport) with RLT 26 for transport to Pearl Harbor, then to White Beach, Okinawa. The ship had taken two kamakazi strikes while offloading Marines for the battle for Okinawa. The ship had returned to CONUS for repairs and was then put in βmothballsβ from β46-β66.
My entire life I've known it as the "Mothball Fleet" as a kid we'd marvel at the number of ships anchored in the San Francisco bay but the last time i was there it was only about a dozen ships. Not very impressive.
Glad to hear that π
And you pay for it π

Do they have trained crews to man those ships?
We're being groomed for war, A war America wants and no one else.
Yep, and you would need the draft to crew them.

True
Just have to find crews.
But are they being maintained and the maintenance being audited?
