  1. It's much better than True Romance to me. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it's really good, but I could see it being overhyped to you from people since you run a big channel. I'm surprised that you didn't like it though, especially with some of the crap you DO like. (jk). I'm looking forward to getting it, but I don't want to pay full price. If you want to unload it, I might be interested.

  2. The secret to understanding NBK is that it's a big-budget Roger Corman drive-in B-movie. Oliver Stone directly says so in the commentary when the blood hits the windshield in the opening credits. That's why it's so over-the-top and cartoonishly unrealistic in it's violence and setpieces. It's intentionally trying to replicate the various low-budget styles of late 60s/early 70s exploitation/Grindhouse filmmakers most of whom cut their teeth working for Roger Corman's New World Pictures. For years I never understood this movie's reputation–yeah, it's really violent, but the violence isn't realistic at all–until I saw the commentary on Blu-ray. I like it a little better now because I was a huge movie snob in the 90s.

I bought the BB exclusive steelbook because I'm a sucker for those particular steels on films I'm willing to own. Still haven't opened it yet.

  3. I can appreciate if it wasn't for you. This is probably one you needed to see when it was released. That guerilla filmmaking was crazy watching it at 12. I re-watched it later on Hallucinogens and it blew my mind. Still does, Cheers!

  4. To each their own. I really loved this film when it came out. I probably watched my laserdisc once a week. Though a lot of people, especially at the time, loved the film for the wrong reasons and it almost became a parody of itself just because of the reaction. I hadn't seen it in years but picked up the 4k steellbook and it's stood up to the test of time for me. I probably won't watch it as often as did back in the day, but it's definitely worth owning in 4k for me.

  5. I have the 'Diamond Luxe' edition of Green Mile – really nice, I've got the Arrow Video box set of Green Mile but, like you said, I'm not selling the Diamond Luxe one 🙂

  6. Lol a first time watch of NBK in 4K I knew this was gonna be an issue. I’m watching the movie and I thought people who’ve never seen the film will have an issue with the transfer. The movie is made from I think nearly 20 different film formats from 8mm to 16mm and even video cameras. I mean you had to have known this Ken? I myself who’s seen the film in every format possible, certain parts shine in 4K. This I isn’t the DNR fiasco of Platoon.

  7. To me, it’s a social commentary of the times, a bit more relevant now considering that people do idolize serial killers, they get Hulu and Netflix documentaries glorifying what they did and we know how insensitive it is, but like everything we draw a blind eye to it. I wish you got to see this when it first came out, I feel you may have a better appreciation for what Oliver Stone did. I am confused to why you were mad over the stylistic choices. It’s a product of its time.

Dangerfield killed it in the movie being such a scum. It was like he was channeling Joe Spinell from The Undertaker, Maniac, so on and so forth.

  8. I like the movie myself but yeah it's not one of my favorite Oliver Stone films. Still I give him props for trying to do something different, many scenes are in black and white, shot on video, film grain to no film grain so in certain parts the 4K transfer looks stunning. I thought the pharmacy snake venom scene which was all green looked outstanding in 4K. The whole point of the movie is criminals turning into celebrities by the mainstream media, which ironically still happens today.

  9. I'm a huge Tommy Lee Jones fan and he was just ridiculous in this movie. For a completely reverse performance check him out in Rolling Thunder if you haven't already. He's fantastic in a supporting role as Vietnam vet.

  10. Definitely one my favorite movies. Its not a commercial movie like MCU movies. I had to $130 for the laserdisc as part of the Pioneer Special Edition. Worth every penny.

  11. Ken you are not alone on this movie. I saw this one many moons ago…..I never cared for this movie and I like all the actors in the movie…..just didn't care for the story or presentation of the story….totally agree with you on this one!

  12. I remember seeing Natural Born Killers in theaters when it came out. And all I can say is I thought it suck. And not worth owning at any price. Bc to me it was just a one and done watch and I have no desire to ever rewatch Natural Born Killers ever again

  13. Hi Ken! 👋 I think it’s one of those “you had to be there” type movies. Sort of like Pulp Fiction, when this movie came out there was nothing like it and if you’re just now watching it in 2023, it doesn’t hit the same way it did then. Both cuts are wild, but the directors cut is a lot of people’s preference.
Also picked up the Steelbook because it used original promotional art
