This is a question I would have for your 3rd guest. Can they take water and add many different types of contamination. Including viruses. Then, freeze then to the same temperatures on the moon.
And turn it back into drinking water with conditions that mirror the moons?

Just dig a big well, heat the surrounding ground, pump the water out in to storage takes… worry about purifying it after. Trouble is with any space endeavor is that we always make things to complicated.
Isn't it way too early for this? What is the point when we don't even know the condition of the ice? We already have a vast array of technologies to make clean water, several of them will likely work on the moon, just need to know how dirty it is to select the right method.

Nobody that you talked with in your video appears to be using vacuum distillation, which would lower the amount of energy needed for purifying the water. Vacuum is also a resource that is readily available on the moon.

To get to liquid water they need to address energy production… With energy you can work around issues. building a huge dome on the moon will help start the process.

You have been restating an incorrect assumption about the efficiency of a solar tracking energy panel on the South pole of the moon..
Except for the brief period of darkness the panels will be in completely direct sunlight at the south pole.
The difference on Earth is that at the poles there is much more atmosphere to diffuse the light.
No atmosphere on the moon means no refraction means direct sunlight, equal to what it would experience at the equator, except, there for only half the lunar month.

Previously I commented about the first thing we need to do on the Moon and simplified it. The people who Angry Interviewed are the ones who need to make living on the Moon simple. One thing they said was required to do was to deal with the temperature changes of the Lunar Surface. I did hear them say that the Lunar Surface might be more difficult to dig through and mine the regolith. All we need is a Boring Machine to bore to the Lava tubes that are believed to be miles long. Underground habitats won't have major temperature changes, so it will be easier to prevent the Nuclear Reactor from overheating.

One would think that with the extreme temperature changes on the moon, that simply the transition from hot to cold would generate the electricity for any process as long as the "generating" equipment is made with the correct materials that would transition the temperatures accordingly. Heat conduction to a material junction that transfers the extreme temperatures to produce the power needed.

i would think radiating reactor waste heat into space at the frigid lunar pole would be relatively easy? also, waste heat might be good for keeping astronauts and equipment warm? very small reactors such a SNAP have been built and tested well.

A pump forces water through a very ‘tight’ filter membrane, after passing through microporous compressed carbon filters, that remove the big stuff & most chemicals.
At the end, you get only water molecules & a tiny bit of silica.
That can be separated, also, with a even tighter filter.
This RO filter was modeled after human kidneys.
It’s the system used in providing very pure H20 for sensitive ocean organism aquariums of all sizes, & also how the grocery/ convenience/ water retailers for .25-.75/gal.
It differs from distillation, as no heating is required, it’s a passive mechanical process, pushed by in line pumps.

People hear "nuclear reactor" and think 60's high pressure water reactor, ever single time, when it could not be further from the truth these days.
A 10 Kilowatt reactor, huh? I know of one of those… KILOPOWER/CRUSTY nuclear reactors are low power, but potentially can have only one moving part, the neutron deflector, the rest is solid state…. The defector position turns it on and off. making it very robust and the longish half life of the fuel means it'll be around a long time when turned off…
Any complexity will just be what is added to it, hypothetically a lever could be all that is needed externally…. You do not get much simpler than that for a reactor… Getting the material released might be an issue though, hehe.

I find is so amusing how each academic tried to promoted their self and pontificated about how they have worked in academia and gave away how much of each candidate is a over rated and paid narcissist and of course that's why they became an academic, because they have to take the high ground and say they superior to the rest of us and want the wage packet over quick results. TBh, just ask Myth Busters, and give them 24 months, with a few RTG's and a chemist, they will get it sorted in half the time and on a tinny budget and it would be way more entertaining!
Filtration and distillation is how. Low pressure distillation is energy efficient on the moon.
