NASAโ€™s Abandoned Plan To Colonize Mars

In truth, the obsession with colonizing Mars is not something new.
This concept actually started gaining traction during the last century with several projects created by talented and ambitious individuals working under NASA, sharing the end-goal of a crewed mission to Mars.
Things started to kick off especially after the Apollo 11 event in 1969 when the US became the first country to send humans to the Moon.
With this feat, NASA became more confident in its capability to reach destinations beyond the Moon, specifically Mars.
However, no colonization effort of any sort on the red planet has been carried out so far.
So what exactly happened to stunt the progress of these long forgotten projects?
And can SpaceXโ€™s Starship provide NASA the extra oomph it needs to accomplish its unfulfilled dreams?
Letโ€™s find out in todayโ€™s Great SpaceX Episode!

  1. I get the feeling that NASA is about to give up on way more than the Mars missions, but also give up on the Moon missions (that Boeing capsule has many problems much like so much of Boeing's other products; the rocket (Artemis) appears to be OK) but now NASA wants to merely concentrate on Diversity, Inclusivity and Equity Programs.

  2. NASA a good at talking but not at actually achieving anything. they failed to get the first man in space due to politics of yhe democrats trying to make sure the first man in space was a civilian the. USAF X15 pilots were. flying to the edge of space regularly and could have been in spxace years before The Soviets but the great socialists decided to form NASA instead!of being first in space. th only reason america got to the moon was becsuse of the vision and will power of Werner Von Braun! The only way The Americans will ever get anywhere in space, is with commercial space flight. america needs to Ditch NASA as a massive waste of Time and money! Elon Muskโ€™s vision of a two planet human race could be the driving force behind building a self sustaining colony on Mars. ! as we can see NASA. never had any intention of going to Mars theyโ€™ve been pretending to return to the moon for the last 50 years a base on the moon will never be self sustaining. there arenโ€™t the resources on the moon as there are on Mars. s moon base will only be possible with constant resupply from Earth. at least a self sustaining mars volony will be able to keep going if the earth ceases to exist
thtough a comet strike or nuclear war

  3. If NASA joined totally with Space X with Elon Musk and his team of engineers and Starship builders Mars will have Starships landing on the surface within a year or two, the success with Falcon 9s and heavy has proven reliability, now its Starship time to make it happen. ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒ

  4. Just to keep this in perspective, Von Braun and others were working on developing liquid fueled rockets well before he was conscripted by the Nazis, an organization not known for accepting โ€œSorry, but Iโ€™m not interested in joining your jack-booted club.โ€ His interest before and after the war was space.

  5. Hi great ๐Ÿ‘ space x thanks for the updates donโ€™t give up yet NASA you have done ๐Ÿ‘ much so many successes like ๐Ÿ‘ landing on the moon ๐ŸŒ™ that is something to be proud of so come on nasa pull your fingers out and letโ€™s get going David ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡งโค๏ธ๐Ÿ‘

  6. Good information well presented! SpaceX is making amazing progress! I anticipate Starship will reach the Moon this year! Heat shields need to be rethought. Possibly larger & affixed differently & all around to allow for possible navigation issues upon re-entry. Could be the difference between manageable issue vs RUD. Just a thought! Keep up the excellent work Elon and SpaceX team! ๐Ÿš€ ๐Ÿค—โค๐Ÿ”ฅ

  7. Good, colonizing Mars is dumb, really dumb. Colonizing North Dakota or Wyoming would be a much better idea. Put a colony on the bottom of the ocean if you just insist on spending more money.

  8. If anything, nasa will become the FAA of space outside of earths atmo.
Atm, nasa is a contract holder with private companies, boeing and northrup grumman screwed nasa big time with the starliner.
Taxes is what kept nasa from its full potential, gov. held nasa back, so the biggest contribution nasa had was the apollo program

  9. How much can the Starship Super Heavy rocket actually carry into orbit? With Raptor 3.1 3.2 engines, the total thrust mass will exceed 10,000 tons, and the rocket with fuel alone will exceed 5,000 tons. The difference between the rocket's thrust and mass is huge, which shouldn't be the case
problem with putting 500 tons or more into orbit?
What is it like in practice? Is it possible to put 500 tons into orbit?

  10. Did NASA ever truly believe we could colonize Mars? I'm sure some scientists did, but NASA is a political football. Only the richest guys in the world can achieve these ambitions. Meanwhile, NASA squanders many billions on worthless things like SLS. The conomy must also be strong to keep any progress moving.
