Napoleon Documentary (Part 19): Egypt – The Land of the Pharaohs

Napoleon marches into Cairo and is hailed as the ‘Sultan of Fire’ – the virtual ruler of Egypt. But disaster strikes for the French fleet at the Battle of the Nile, at the hands of Admiral Nelson. Trapped in his own conquest, Napoleon sets in motion his modernising reforms of Egypt, lays the foundations of a colony, and grows fond of this exotic land – while the French army struggles to acclimatise.

The time period covered in this episode is July 1798 to August 1798.
