Nancy Drew 2.18 "The Echo of Lost Tears" Dreamscape Analysis

In the season 2 finale, The Echo of Lost Tears, Nancy Drew is sent into her own mind and (with her friends’ help) has to find her way back out by navigating through layers of her own trauma. It’s a fantastic sequence that’s packed full of easter eggs and callbacks, so today we’ll be diving through those layers and breaking it all down.

Thank you sososo much to Bethanyactually, who provided me invaluable feedback on this video! ♥ This would likely not have gotten done without her help. Also to the Tumblr users who gave feedback on my original post for the things I couldn’t find, this fandom is great.

Sorry about some of the abrupt choppy editing at the end of the video and the Bess section, I had to play copyright whack-a-mole.

  1. ahhh i love the parallel of nancy having an intimate moment (lol) with dreamscape nick in the whisper box episode, and then being unable to meet his eyes afterwards and deal with those emotions, versus her having an intimate moment and a realization of romantic feelings with ace in the dreamscape and her just STARING at him when she wakes up!! not running away from those emotions (which we see later in the ep where she goes to his house to try and confess her feelings!) also, so interesting to see your analysis of the outfits they were each wearing and what connections that draws, like it being george's resurrection look and ace being in the outfit he wore when she chose to save his life.

i would watch like five of these videos for every episode lol, i'm fully hyperfixated, thank you for this content

  2. Okay I just watched the show and I loved it! I just have to add that Ace’s shirt is also the same (or maybe just really similar) to the shirt he wore in 1×18 when he and nancy were at owen’s apartment after he died. It’s the scene when he says that he knows how much she’s had to deal with and he’ll always be there if she wants to talk. At the end she says if she finds the words she’ll share them with him and I feel like that scene marks the start of her beginning to trust him more than anyone. I didn’t notice until you did a deep dive on his shirt though so thank you for that. Anyways love them, love the show!
