Hey!! Amazing videos! Would you be interested in joining with us and several other YTers on a PJO discord server to promote your videos and a PJO community??
It's interesting that you call Antinous a monster. Since every monster in Epic the Musical has a song that is just their name, set in their lair.
The Ithaca Saga has a Monster… but it's not Antinous.
He ended it sooo well I hope this is going to be on stageeee
honestly I interpreted the visuals of the challenge animatic not as "Penelope is gonna literally stand in the way of the arrows so that if someone wins they kill her" so much as "she would genuinely rather be shot in the face than go through with this so while she's fairly confident none of them can do this if somebody does she'll kill herself about it"
My favorite animatic for Hold them down is the one where Odysseus strings the bow, and shoots the arrow through the 12 axes and it lands in Antinous' neck at the end.
The viola, penelopes instrument plays the same notes as Ody screaming "No!" In keep your friends close when the wind bag is opened. Penelope is screaming, and to Antinous, its music to his ears.
This song is a masterpiece that makes you feel dirty for liking it
u do know its antinous getting killed at end of hold em down cause his line gets stopped mid word with him choking on blood
Athena is at the beginning of the next step of the journey now that Odysseus is back, but he’s at the end of his journey and is so so tired. The only thing he has energy left for is to see Penelope. A grim reminder of the fact that an immortal’s time with a mortal they care about is limited. I love how the way it sounds like two different songs between the parts shows how far apart their mental states are during their reunion. It feels so bittersweet because although they part on overall good terms compared to before, by the time Athena saw Odysseus again after all this time, it had taken too long.
Odysseus is the most cathartic song for me and is probably my favourite of this saga followed closely by hold Them Down then WYFILWMA, CWBW and The Challenge. Although every song is fantastic and ranked pretty decently against the other saga's although No Longer You is my favourite overall song and the Underworld Saga is my favourite Saga overall.
"I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER" is my favorite song in the Ithaca Saga. I love Leif's animatic of it.
Wisdom Saga is my favorite
These are AMAZING, but have you seen the canon Livestream animatics?
You should react to the birthday saga
Pretty sure they meant the canon animatics from the livestream Jorge did… Fan animatics are subject to far more creative liberty, such as making Calypso a lot more SA-y than intended. I don't hate these, but the canon ones definitely did a much better job of playing into the intended emotions of the songs, even if some of them are not fully animated.
I'd say she was, if not his equal, pretty close in mythos. I mean the only reason she has to do the challenge is one of the maids betrays her and tells her lover (one of the suitors) that she's been undoing the work on the shroud every night.
i cryed so hard during this saga ahh
All of the songs in Epic! are titled after the concept of the song.
The Man and the Infant,
Mutiny,
Warrior of the Mind,
Thunder Bringer, etc
But a select few songs, specifically songs about monsters are titled using names. Those monsters names.
Polyphemus,
Scylla,
Charybdis,
Odysseus.
hello hello I'm the animator for i can't help but wonder, and I've been watching everyone's reactions to my stuff and like THANK YOU. I very much appreciate it!
Also you are the only reactor to point out the tapestry with the boar and Athena on it. One of my favorite details i added!
n acredito q cheguei cedo
To clarify the shroud, it was for her father, not Oddysius. She had been making it for 3 years.
To be fair, in the book and movies he is shot in the neck. In the Return on Prime though it's different. Different perspectives.
I definitely agree with the take that you should listen to EPIC first and then watch it, though maybe not the whole thing; I did try that a little bit when I was first introduced to EPIC and was very confused. Maybe go saga by saga.
Just for context my friend introduced me when the thunder saga was released, I had no knowledge of The Odyssey prior, and there were no animatics out yet for Scylla and such. After that we both got together for every watch party livestream when a new saga released and I am now more rabid and clinically insane about this musical than she is <3
But when the Ithaca saga came out and the watch party livestream was cancelled, I did end up listening to it audio-only first the whole way through, and I'm so happy I did. Firstly because of Hold Them Down's ending, did NOT see that coming. And then, in Odysseus, I got to really listen to the motifs and instruments for the first time to figure out what was happening, instead of just looking at the official livestream visuals, and first of all I immediately caught the Athena sound effects and went "omg she's ALIVE!!", and then tried to figure out what the other part of the instrumental was. I didn't catch on that it was playing Legendary, but It did sound like a string instrument of some form, so I was kinda thinking through it like "Huh, it kind of gives acoustic guitar vibes like odysseus, but not quite, it's also not a viola- MY GOD THAT'S TELEMACHUS", and I have never felt so proud, I felt so powerful in that moment. Still no clue what instrument that actually is, but for some reason, my brain thinks it sounds like a mix between an acoustic guitar and a viola, which fits. But I would not have gotten that experience if I'd watched the watchparty livestream first or seen animatics, so I'm super happy I simply listened, it was so great. And then of course I cried during the last two songs, and cried again when seeing visuals for them lol
Please feel free anyone to tell me what instrument is actually playing in that section, especially if it's not even a string instrument lmao. I'm a master of getting the right answer with the completely wrong method and I'm so interested to hear how horribly far off I was lol
And shoutout to Jorge for all of the cool motifs and character instruments and every musical detail he does, I love them all sm <3
that is a fair take one that i do not agree with but a fair take. Edit: also Jorge has cannon animatics in his watch party apon release that are meant to be seen with the music. note this is not a complant there is no wrong way to enjoy media.
As you and so many have pointed out, yes, he did capture wind and sky… but he also made storm clouds cry. Posiedon is god over storms, and those were absolutely cries of pain earlier, because Posiedon dared threaten what he would do to Telemachus if Odysseus didn't drown himself.
If you listen really closely, when Antinous sings his last line. "Channel the fire inside your soul!" Right when he says 'Soul' it's very subtle, but you can hear the arrow being released from Odysseus
That "The Challenge" animatic is definitely a favourite for me, since it accurately depicts what "shooting through 12 axes" means. A few others are good but end up depicting axes with wholes in them, which is…silly.
I agree with listening first. In Odysseus I interpreted the arrows being shot whenever someone said anything remotely intelligent (comparatively to the other suitors) was odysseus recognizing that they might not be an intellectual match for him but its best to snuff the smart ones out first. So anytime someone said anything that showed why they were a candidate for king he singled them out
Antinous shows the ability to rally others through emotional speeches and promises of moral freedoms "do what thou wilt and that shall be the whole of the law"
The suitor who mentioned that he had insight on what odysseus was capable of
The suitor who attempted to appeal with a well done mix of empathy and logic
i think it smart for epic to leave the reason the challenge had to happen, was one of Penelope slave told the sutiors about her un-weeve in the shound
hard to enjoy love story when remind, yes by the way one of two lovers is slave owning warrior princess from sparta
As seen in the start of the The Challenge animatic you can see the door open and close, it pays homage to the real Odyssey where a maid snitches on Penelope and tells the suitors about the challenge!
My old husband's bow 🚫
My husband's old bow ✅
I'm sobbing.. 🥺💖
27:45 As seen here, there are background music recalls from past songs!
“Left a trail of red on every island” (Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves”
“Traded Friends like objects I could use” (Thunder Bringer)
“Hurt more lives that I can count on my hands” (Im not sorry for loving you)
You should listen to the song Odysseus in the official live stream visual instead
Heyyy, I also reccomend looking up the live stream. The official animatics took off for the finale, especially in Would You Fall In Love With Me Again which was made by Gigi
I love the canon animatic from the livestream for "Hold them down", because it is not spoilery, it doesn't show Odysseus is here, and it is very surprising when the arrow just suddenly fly out of nowhere and kills Antinuos.
Girl i seen so many reactions and a lot of them were just audio. The amount of people who thought Telemachus was Odysseus in the wisdom saga is so damn high it was painful. AND THEY DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS TELEMACHUS UNTIL THE VIDEO WAS POSTED AND PEOPLE CORRECTED THEM. Painful watches loool i personally recommend with animatics hahaha just gotta choose the ones that don't spoil it. The original livestream doesn't show him sneaking up on him.
🤩 Sublime wey! 🌈 Contempla mi contenido! 💜
Yes bow down to are Queen 👸
Was Penelope an equal to Ody in the original text? Probably not. But she was a princess of Sparta so she was definitely considered a remarkable woman in her own right. She isn't written about that extensively beyond that though.
Where can I watch epic the musical 30:49
Odysseus was initially supposed to court Helen of Troy but fell for her cousin Penelope for her whit and intellect. In addition she was part spartan and was also trained as Spartans train their women so she had the strength to safeguard his kingdom in the meantime but I can’t get over how well matched they were.
15:43 I always thought it was "old king spare us" but that's so cool that they're saying Odysseus in the greek pronounation
