  10. The meaning of Babylon the Great is truly a mystery for most, but when a person realizes that ancient Babylon is the prototype of Babylon the Great, the pieces begin to fall into place. Why would God, whose name is Jehovah (see Isa 12:2, KJV), use the name "Babylon" with Great, if ancient Babylon were not a clue as to what the empire of Babylon the Great is ?

    For example, at Revelation 13:1, 2, it speaks of "a wild beast", and since the Bible is its own interpreter (or "let scripture interpret scripture"), then what scripture or scriptures would provide a clue as to what the "wild beast" is ?

    Daniel 7, that outlines "four huge beasts" or political world powers that held sway over Jehovah's people (in which the last political "beast", or 5th one, is called "the small horn" at Dan 7:8, and became the Anglo/American world power), whereby the ones at Daniel 7 are (1) ancient Babylon, (2) Medo-Persia, (3) Greece, and (4) ancient Rome (that were preceded by Egypt, that was followed by Assyria, see Isa 52:4). But in the Bible, ancient Babylon was especially noted for, not its political arrangement, but for its false religion.

    For instance, at Isaiah 47, here is what ancient Babylon was described as being, that "these two things will come upon you suddenly, in one day: Loss of children and widowhood (see Rev 18:7). In full measure they will come upon you because of your many sorceries and all your powerful spells (showing religion as its real "power")…….calamity will come upon you, and none of your charms will stop it……."

    "Go ahead, then, with your spells and your many sorceries, with which you have toiled from your youth. Perhaps you may be able to benefit; Perhaps you may strike people with awe. You have grown weary with the multitude of your advisers…….Those who worship the heavens, who gaze at the stars, those giving out knowledge at the new moons (or the zodiac) about the things that will come upon you."(Isa 47:9, 11-13)

    Here is how extremely religious King Nebuchadnezzar (reigned 625-582 B.C.E.) of ancient Babylon was: "And the word of Jehovah again came to me (the prophet Ezekiel), saying: “As for you, son of man, mark out two ways for the sword of the king of Babylon to come. Both of them will originate from the same land, and a signpost should be set up where the road branches off to the two cities."

    "You should mark out one way for the sword to come against Rabʹbah of the Amʹmon·ites, and the other way against fortified Jerusalem in Judah. For the king of Babylon stops to use divination at the fork in the road, where the two roads branch off. He shakes the arrows. He consults his idols; he examines the liver. The divination in his right hand is pointed toward Jerusalem."(Eze 21:18-22)

    And at Jeremiah 51:47, it says: "Therefore look ! the days are coming when I (Jehovah God) will turn my attention to the graven images of Babylon. All her land will be put to shame, and all her slain will fall in her midst."

    Archaeology bears this out of "the graven images of Babylon", for of the fertility goddess Ishtar (or Astarte, also possibly called "Queen of the heavens", see Jer 44:18, 19, 25), there was found 180 altars in the ruins of ancient Babylon alone, not counting all the other false gods it had, such as Nebo, Bel (Isa 46:1), Marduk (called Merodach in the Bible at Jer 50:2, and later called Bel)

    Now, to understand what Babylon the Great is at Revelation 17:5, that as ancient Babylon was rife with false religion and spiritism, so of Babylon the Great, that is the world empire of false religion, the religions of the world that have seduced much of mankind with its false religious doctrines and practices, such as Christendom's Trinity doctrine, hell or hellfire, the immortality of the soul, purgatory, the cross, the clergy-laity class, Christmas, Easter, birthdays, feast days, that involvement in the political realm has God's blessing, etc.

    So, at Revelation 17:1, 2, the false religions of the world (of which Christendom is a major player) are described as "the great prostitute" that has the nations "under its little finger, whereby it says that "one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me:

    “Come, I will show you the judgment on the great prostitute who sits on many waters (or people, see Rev 17:15), with whom the kings of the earth (or political rulers) committed (both symbolic and literal) sexual immorality, and earth’s inhabitants were made drunk (or under the seductive lure of its false teachings and practices) with the wine of her sexual immorality", and is seen as riding on the back of "the scarlet-colored wild beast", the United Nations, influencing its movements or political directives.(Rev 17:3; see also Rev 17:18)

    At Revelation 17:16, 17, it tells us what will soon happen to "the great prostitute", Babylon the Great, who has "gone to bed" with the world's political leaders, keeping them "happy", by maneuvering their members to support the political leaders, so that verses 16 and 17 says:

    "And the ten horns (or member nations of the United Nations, Rev 17:12) that you saw and the ("scarlet-colored") wild beast (the United Nations, Rev 17:3), these will hate the prostitute and will make her devastated and naked, and they will eat up her flesh and completely burn her with fire (so that it forever ceases to exist). For (Jehovah) God put it into their hearts to carry out his thought, yes, to carry out their one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast, until the words of God will have been accomplished."

  22. You don’t mention the Rapture of the current church (1 Thessalonians 4:17-18). If it were indeed to happen before the Tribulation, then those believers during the Tribulation would have been converted by the 144,000 Jewish evangelists at work during those seven years. When the admonition to “come out” from the evil Babylonian influence, it refers to these believers (many who are martyred, Rev. 6:9-11) as well as the Jews who are being persecuted—they are said to flee to the wilderness (some believe Petra in Jordan could be the place) (Rev. 12:6) to be apart from the Antichrist’s decimating control. The church isn’t part of this horror; 1 Thessalonians 1:10 says that Jesus saves us from the wrath to come.
