People do live in the central part. It’s just that for the major population it is too far to travel food – costs a fortune to get it there. It mostly desert so it’s difficult to grow stuff out there.

Fun fact. Only 55% of Australia is accessible. 45% completely restricted. All the nasty bugs snakes and lizards will get ya there anyways 😂. There is some shark and octopus (bluering)and jelly fish to worry about if ya swimming but it’s awesome. Wouldn’t be anywhere else.
