  1. 1) Theatrical cut is my vote.

    2) Maybe consider Lois & Clark show from the 90’s for your personal enjoyment, Jen. Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain knocked it out of the park. Their chemistry was SO good. The TV special effects were charming to see. And their show is part of the reason Superman Returns was so successful. They cast a really good character actor for Lex Luthor in Dan Shea for the 90’s show. The show runners really cared about Lois not being stupid and paying homage to the original comics.

  2. 15:55 Martha: You're not all-powerful, Clark.
Clark: Well, I should be! Someday I will be. I will be the most powerful superhero ever. I promise you. I will even learn to stop people from dying! It's all Batman's fault! He's jealous! He's holding me back!

  3. Regarding Superman 2, both have their flaws. The Lester version is a more complete film (for obvious reasons if you know the story of the production), though the Donner version is less goofy. I actually don't like the ending of either version, but both have their ups and downs. As for which version you should watch, personally I'd go with the Lester version because it's more complete and then maybe go back and watch the Donner cut down the line with added context. At some stage I really want to do an editing project where I combine the two cuts into a single, coherent film.

As for Superman The Movie, my personal favourite scene is after the "Can You Read My Mind" scene when they return to Lois' apartment. From the moment Superman flies off to the end of the scene, it's all one shot. In the same shot you see Superman leave, seconds later you see Clark outside Lois' door, then Reeve transforms from Clark to Superman and back to Clark again through his performance and it's nigh on perfect.

What's great about it is that first, it shows Superman/Clark existing in the world as separate people, even though we know it's the same person. Also, the moment Clark removes his glasses and changes his demeanour is so good that you almost believe that Clark really could get away with the glasses disguise and that's all you really need to go along with the suspension of disbelief. Reeve shows that it's possible, even if only just for a brief moment and that's enough.

  4. "Can You Read My Mind?" is not a poem, it's a song, sung by Maureen McGovern. Due to the fact that Margot Kidder (Lois) couldn't sing, the song was TURNED into a poem… Christopher Reeve acted in two distinct roles here, it's NOT the glasses, it's how he stands, walks, talks. Other actors never even tried this "dual characters" mode, if you will… One more fun fact: The actor who played Young Clark (school age), was NOT happy when he found out they replaced his voice with Christopher Reeve's (the same as the Darth Vader original body actor…) It's a great movie with such a weak screenplay, strange how it is, really.

  5. Well, it's no wonder Superman wears red underpants on the outside of his suit – he must have a place to store all those emergency snacks he needs to save the day! And Lex Luthor's plan to create a new continent with nuclear bombs? Talk about being overzealous in your home renovation plans! Why stop at knocking down a wall when you can detonate a missile and create your own piece of real estate? Who needs HGTV when you've got supervillains with a passion for geology?
