Completely agree with you man.. I personally feel like it is a waste of money and time.. most times if you want to sell these graded items, you won’t even get back the amount of money you spent on grading it.
I've only got a few AFA graded. Mostly my prized possessions that were never carded like a pristine Blue Snag and an Early Bird Dark Blue R2D2.
Not for investment purposes…. but to keep them nice and safe. These are going nowhere.
THEY'RE MINE, ALL MINE! 😉
Toy grading is a $cam. I've ZERO interest in it. Besides, the money would be better spent elsewhere (on more toys).
I am an opener, and want to inspect, pose and hold them periodically, have no desire to have anything graded, the value for me is in feelings or memories not monetary, so I am with you 💯 👍
Funny you should uploud this video now. Just recently I got a vintage Tie fighter pilot figure from a guy who explained he has the entire Kenner collection of figures, infact he has doubles of every single loose figure. And he is selling the ones that are in less good condition. Meanwhile sends away the mint ones for AFA grading. When I asked why he would do that, he explained he had most of these figures from childhood. He had the opportunity to play with them, touch them, feel them for his entire life. And said he wants to take his collecting to a whole new level by encasing them in these acrylic boxes. Stating to him these figures are no longer toys, but rather artifacts, and he wants his house to look like a professional toy museum.
I learned an entirely new aspect of collecting I never really new about. It’s fascinating. And interesting. Although personally I like to play around with mine. Or at the very least display them actually standing next to eachother in scenes. But I have respect for this type of collecting as well all the same.
I have nothing against grading, but I think the whole grading craze can make the fans and collectors who actually care about it look bad.
The ones who want it graded are seemingly only in it for the money and the bragging rights.
I'm not saying ALL.
I don't mean to cast any dispersions on anybody who does get things graded.
I think it would be interesting to see figures with play wear get graded.
Now what? 🙂
I see those figures as just as good.
Those are the veterans, our heroes.
They deserve respect also.
I don't need someone to tell me what I have is special.
I'm all for protecting and treating stuff right, but putting everything in a box you probably can't open later doesn't sound like my idea of a good time.
I live my life behind glass to begin with.
I heard the same thing, that it would take months to get your stuff back.
EFF that. Quite honestly, I don't want ANYONE touching my shit.
I'm that kind of girl. 🙂
Thanks for the video
Grading downgrades the item for many of us I think, but people can do whatever they want, even melt their figures in a vat of acetone.
I like having both, a loose set and a loose graded set. As time goes on and other people besides the collectors start selling collections, there will be a lot of reproductions caught-up in the soup, unknowingly and knowingly. Add to that the Retro Collection accessories coming genuinely from Hasbro factories and the line is getting thinner and thinner. Getting items graded is a great way to display them and the perfect way to create family heirlooms. Obviously, work on a loose set first; then go graded
Well said once again Chandler, "value" is the nostalgia 100% nothing else, I have all my childhood (Palitoy) figures and to me they are priceless despite not all being mint etc. Grading is way way too expensive, Id rather spend the $ on more figures. Cheers :):)
Great vid dude!! 📺
Great video GQ Jedi. Totally agree with you. I have my Vinyl Cape Jawa in an Ian’s Display Box, and it looks just as cool, and I can open it whenever I want. Love the AT-AT t-shirt by the way!
I think grading is ridiculous. It absolutely ruined the hobby. Ebay is flooded with over priced graded figures. Scalpers scooped these carded figures up, entombed them and then held them hostage from collectors who just wanted some childhood nostalgia. Plus, these figures and packages continue to age even in the acrylic. Collecting nostalgia is fun, not profit. My opinion. My rant. BTW, these grading companies are no more authorities than you or I. BTW your channel is great! Thank you.
Truly they are to be treasured
Great video! I totally agree with you.
I hate graded figures. Might as well collect pictures of them, since you can't touch or enjoy them as they were meant to be enjoyed (by playing with them!).
Your videos have become Sunday Rituals. I Don't Do It… I Love It brother, Keep it Pure for all of us. When you buy something lose… You sound very sexy when you say that…
Only graded figure I have is a loose vinyl caped Jawa that I bought at auction a number of years ago. I bought it mostly to ensure that the vinyl cape Jawa was legit.
I wish people would learn these are toys. Not something to invest in to make money. You want to do that? Go buy some stocks instead.
As my cousin so eloquently put it, Grading: paying someone else to tell you your stuff is worth something.
I just had a bubble fall off the card when I moved it. It wasn’t a rare figure but still.
my star wars toys. i WILL find a way to take em with me. a melted down figures, reshaped kenner plastic coffin will do just fine.
I do like the idea of protecting things in acrylic, but I consider collecting to be a significantly tactile experience. That’s part of the nostalgia for me, and therefore, I want to be able to remove things from the case from time to time.
