It’s My Scene, My Scene! You know what I mean? In the throes of agony over losing ground in the fashion doll industry to MGA’s Bratz, Mattel tried to use the Bratz formula to their own benefit, with the glam, trendy, nightclub-loving My Scene.

Did they succeed in establishing a unique and viable competitor, or did they just make a shameless ripoff? How old are they, anyways? And why is Harvey Weinstein there? This video will take a look at the history of the dolls, their excellent presence on Mattel’s website, the CD ROM games, the original and reboot english webisodes, and all three direct to DVD movies.

  1. a few notes:
Diva Starz is actually Mattel. For some reason there were several sources that claimed they were distributed by MGA and since they weren’t the focus of this video i didn’t look into it further.
Second, this video omits a series of spanish/portuguese webisodes that I had to overlook due to time constraints. I plan to cover those in a future Patreon-exclusive video!

  2. I'm only 15 minutes into the vid and exploded at the fact myscene was in project runway, i never knew since i really only started watching from season 3 onwards…. Mattel really said "put them everywhere" just to kill Bratz 😭

  3. I loved the myscene website but the dolls were always lack luster for me.
I think Mattel didn’t make a myscene karaoke machine because bratz already had one. (I literally still have mine lol)

  4. Roller skate nolee was my only myscene doll and she was my absolute favourite doll. The only thing was she was so much bigger than my barbies so playing with them together was a bit odd. She was always the cool mean older sister… sorry nolee

  5. OMG I had the remote control roller skating blond one when I was like six. I thought it was a normal barbie though. It worked really well, she did the splits, spun, and went back and forth. The controls worked just fine. She was tall and beautiful! Lasted for many years, too, and was fit to donate once I didn't play with her anymore.
Consumed batteries in a blink and made A LOT of noise, though.

  6. I never had any of the dolls but I played the website games so many times I can't even begin to count. I have no idea how I possibly missed the websidoes. I loved watching the Monster High ones so much I had them memorized as a kid. I guess I was too preoccupied by the hair and dress up game to look.

i spent so much time on the website, mainly just watching the webisodes on repeat. 44:39 was my favourite
I had the My Scene Goes Hollywood game and i freaking adored it! I especially loved the lunch delivery game because of how weird it was haha
Part of me wants to play it again to relive that feeling, but i have no idea if i even still have the game

  10. It always baffles me how I had never heard of my scene until I was an adult collector. I love bratz and barbie, I was constantly online playing dress up games. I don't really like my scene as a whole, but I ADORE their clothing. It still haunts me that in 2016-2019 I never bought the my scene dolls at this discount toy store near me. They had my bling bling and another line I can't remember, but I just remember it had an interesting box shape. I wish I had bought them for the clothes and accessories, idc about the dolls
