My kids called me out… and they were right! Do this with your PC… NOW!

My kids saw my Halloweed Special where I showed dirty nasty PCs and made fun of them… then they proved that I am a hypocrite…

  1. Ha ha Jay, I don't need to do this to my computer right NOW, I did it a few days ago… And while I was at it, I also cleaned out my friend's PC too because it needed it. My PC…well, lets just say my CPU actually saw a 7 degree drop in temps because, it had been awhile since I last cleaned my PC….my graphics card saw about a 3 degree drop in temps…..

  2. Hey Jay. Would you recommend a graphene pad for a launch model PS3? I've re-pasted it twice with Thermal Grizzly, and it still hits the low 80s, which is not good at all for PS3s. I had some shifting of the thermal paste while having it upright, but even after laying it flat and re-pasting it the 2nd time, it still hits those same high temps, minus a degree or 2.

  3. nothing wrong with "basic stuff" Jay, thanks for the reminder that its realy important to not let such things slide to badly or for to long even
now where is my little handvac… hmm… πŸ˜…

  4. Jay.. wondering if Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut pads work well on direct die cooling applications?.. For laptops / mini-PCs? I'm using a low viscosity TIM for my mini-PC and over-time it'll pump out causing dry spots and the CPU temps to rise.. no matter what I try it always pumps out.. maybe a graphene pad would be the way to go?!

  5. Man, if only there were some sort of filter or something that most cases came with for air intake fans so that your computers wouldn't fill with hair, dust, and dander like that.

  6. I've got ADHD so I enjoy cleaning and reconditioning tools and such, but not cars! I don't know if it's typical for ppl with ADHD but I think it kind of is. The only reason for me, not cleaning my computer is because I use it all the time, I also usually just put to sleep instead of turning it off and on. Don't get me wrong, I pretty much clean my computer and the rest of the setup several times a year because I like to make small upgrades and to make my working area better and more efficient.

  7. What I do when vacuum cleaning my computer is I tape the cardboard tube from an empty long roll of paper towels to the end of the vacuum cleaner hose. Never got a shock from cardboard, never hurt my computer this way. I have killed a graphics card once, like 20 years ago, just using the vacuum cleaner with no cardboard tube attached. Sucking up dust through the plastic generates static charge, the motor can also generates static charge.

From what I can see in this video, in your static discharge test you discharged to grounded parts, that's fine. If you discharge through a signal trace or similar, things will fry. A static discharge are a few thousand volts.

  8. This title is clickbait, everyone who know a little bit about computers and building it, knows you should clean ur machine once every 4-6 months and replace ur thermal paste every 3-4 years.

  9. Listen up, just que up The Gooch Collector song and get started cleaning 1 time a month minimum.

Personally I do mine bi weekly. I have a battery powered blower and blow everything out. I have a stick vacuum with attachments to get in hard to reach places. Also, everyone should get a PAINT BRUSH it will really help keeping your KEYBOARD free of debris. Trust me get you a nice 4 incher for that.

  10. everyone is talking about acrylic, cracks and stuff…i, for once, would love to know, how are you allergic to husky? My wife is sensitive to dust and pollen, and we had husky for 14 years, and no problem with him, except for his shedding twice a year

  11. which reminds me, I have to re apply the CPU thermal paste. I tend to dust off the fans once a month but I haven't done a full clean in a while. I don't have much space so it's always a bit of a hassle to make space and start taking stuff off.

  12. Hey Jay. Thanks for making this video. You apologised a few times for it being overly basic, but you have a lot of fans, like me, who are pretty new to the world of PC's. I built my first system a year ago and until watching this video would have worried about unplugging the GPU or unscrewing the AOI to check the thermal paste. As a bit of a noob, I'd worry that when I plugged it back in it might not work and I wouldn't know how to fix it.

The things that are "obvious" to all you tech wizards out there are pretty confusing for us noobs. Even little things like how often to change thermal paste, how to change thermal paste, how to clean fans and how often etc.

Super helpful video dude. Thanks for remembering the noobs πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  13. When i worked in a computershop about 16 years ago and people came in with their old towers like.. it's not working, you'd open it up and there would be an entire animal on the inside πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚… dead bugs, spiders and everything hahaha. We'd blow it out with the compressor outside by default, if you stick a finger in the fan before you blow you can stop the fan from spinning, so no issues.
