  1. As much as I love the Monster Rancher franchise, this is the one game I'll not play. I don't like Kaiju both as a concept and the style for this game. I just hope they'll release a new Monster Rancher game with their own IP and launches it in the west. I know that not buying it reduces the chances of that happening, but I just can't justify spending money in a game I know I won't play.

  2. I do agree with you Ed. MR2 DX (latest one) was a cheap port from mobile and the west noticed and the sales numbers are terrible. I was so excited to play it but it crashed so many times and soft-locked on me a few times. Also, this new release coming soon is super niche and most don't know what Ultra Kaiju is and will most likely sell poorly. Us folks in the west will not see another MR again because of the sales figures. Just my opinion (I want to be wrong). I love MR but the future for the west looks grim.

  3. Ehhh yeah?? I gues that true for marketing perspective they only give 3 trailer and some game play so i personally don't expect high sell number.
Just hope the game get enough selling copy to make a sequel or new Monster Rancher Game.

  4. If it was a whole new monster rancher game than a cross over I would be more interested and willing to buy it on day one. It's hard to buy new games now a days so I try to just wait. Like I think am saving up till pokemon come out than buy the harvest Final fantasy and the Tactic orge game. I also want to try another Monster Rancher Card game. I liked the um GBA one never really played the playstation ones but if they remastered those old game I might just buy them. Wonder why toei I think it was but like instead of Ulta man why not used Godzilla am sure alot of people in the west know Godzilla and would love to rise one of those kaijus granted Godzilla is like Charizard he have like 10 forms lol. I know of ultra man but never watched much of it.

  5. This is literally the first time I heard about a new Monster Rancher game releasing… and the only thing I know about Ultraman is that it exists. With the unique Ultraman monster designs that remind me of old Power Ranger shows I quite honestly don't believe this will sell well. This game feels like it's catering more to Ultraman nostalgia than to MR fans and quite honestly no matter how good the gameplay is I won't be able to enjoy it cause I don't know and don't care about the Kaijus.

  6. I think the major issue with the Monster Rancher franchise was that they tried to make it a RPG like Pokemon, when at its heart it is a Simulation game.

I think many fans and myself, would agree that Monster Rancher 2 was the best in the serious. I think the best way to promote Monster Rancher, is to give up on making it "kid" friendly like Pokemon. The game was vastly more complex than Pokemon and required the player to be intentional about your decisions. I remember playing Monster Rancher 2 for years and kept being surprised and entertained by it. There were also more mature themes such as death in gameplay. I bought the DX versions and easily sunk in 100+ hours even though the port wasn't the best.

I honestly don't care for the Ultra Kaiju aesthetic (the monsters seem so muted, stiff) whereas Monster Rancher is very expressive, and all the monsters have a very distinct personality/charm. I am going to buy Ultra Kaiju to give it a shot, but I wish to see Suezo and Mocchi in a mainline title soon.

  7. I'd buy a brand new monster rancher day 1. A crossover with kaiju from some show I never watched? Whose monsters look like people in rubber suits from the 70s? Ehhh… Like maybe if there were kaiju based on main series rancher monsters, or kaiju from multiple series like godzilla or pacific rim so I could pick the ones I like, I'd be more interested.

Honestly Japanese developers just never have faith in their original product. They always mess with the core mechanics to "keep the audience engaged" (Dragon Warrior Monsters 3 anybody?), and then when players rightfully pull back, the developers spend the rest of forever thinking "we just didn't try the right gimmick surely."

  8. Another concern I have is that of the people that do know what Kaiju means in the states, the first thing they are going to think of is godzilla, not Ultraman. I don't know how that will affect sales, just saying.

  9. I talked about this not too long ago. Y'know how bad Monster Rancher marketing is in the west? There IS ALREADY A Monster Rancher 5. But they called it "Monster Rancher EVO" for no good reason. It was named "Monster Farm 5: Circus Caravan" in Japan. But, again, they don't like advertising for MR. Both MFLine and Ultra Kaiju are in danger if neglect because of it and I fear it'll cause Koei-Tecmo to shrug their shoulders and go "See? No one cares" when in reality, they were the ones who didn't advertise their own game. It's probably easier to be an UltraMan fan today than it used to be, now that all the licensing rights belong to one company, versus – say – Super Robot Wars which jumps through a LOT of hoops, especially in the games that have Macross ships in them. But, yeah. They need to explain what the game IS and how it relates. I think the Science Patrol Mocchi is a smart play, but they need to do more than tweet about it – they'll just end up preaching to the choir.

  10. If you a fan of MR games but not fond of Ultra please buy this as sign of appreciation. If the see enough support i believe we can get brand new MR game with better visual gameplay and so on

  11. So I'm very much the opposite of most commenters here, I'm an Ultraman fan and that's why I'm picking this game up. I knew Monster Rancher existed, no interest. Despite that, I've been keeping up with any info about this game, and Ed's videos. And between Ultra fans and MR fans, here's the thing: We're both in the same boat. If we want more games from our respective franchises here in the west, this has to do well. Ultraman I think has more leeway to do another game, as this doesn't have any of the Ultras and TsuPro has been HEAVILY marketing them in the US lately (Stage shows at Anime Expos, a Marvel Comic series, Shin Ultraman playing at major Film Festivals), but there hasn't been a proper Ultraman game in the US since the Super Nintendo. Hoping this does well, I'd love to see some more games of both series come over!

  12. On the contrary, I think that the "Ultra Kaiju" part that's gonna bring people in.

    1. this game is promoted in the current ultraman show in their official YouTube channel as an ad break (and there's a lot of English comments there -> lots of audience outside of japan). Which is a great marketing strategy.

    2. The lack of availability of ultraman related video game outside of japan.

Some people might even don't know/care about monster rancher but still interested in this game.

  13. I was excited to hear about a new monster rancher but I don't like the kiju part not that I don't like kiju but I fill like trying to be somthing else but still trying to be what it is (like it wanted to be a monster rancher game but also a kiju game well why not both there both monsters right) that's how I feel

  14. I agree with you. If they announced a MR 5, I'd be so excited! Not that I'm not excited for this new game, but I know very little about the Ultraman series. I'll still get my copy on release. I can't wait to try it out.
