My Biggest Concern with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

I have some concerns with this game, though I’m cautiously optimistic.

  1. Swsh was…. boring. The story was not memorable and barely there at all. I caught myself button mashing to get through the boring dialog. I'm concerned SV will have the same shitty menus and barely present story.

  2. Grow up on pokemon, can give a shit nowadays, congratulations game freak you are the most laziest low effort piece of shit company I've ever seen with a billions of dollars. 70-80% of the fans are kidd so they get away with it.

  3. People will enjoy the games regardless of public opinion and that is ok, but I’m positive Scarlet and Violet won’t be as great as people think they will be, at the end of the day these are made by Gamefreak who has shown time and time again they can’t do quality work, be it graphics or keeping content that should be by all rights a staple of the games, such as follow Pokémon, and one of my biggest peeves is not being able to use my own Pokémon to get around the map, instead using rental ride Pokémon, a bicycle, and a taxi bird that’s just a cut scene, to guardian Pokémon giving me rides. Now the legendary bike Pokémon are the travel gimmick. The sad thing is Gamefreak has shown they’re capable of doing quality work when they want to. But they cut corners because they know the games will sell. This is why I firmly believe Gamefreak will not change without legit competition in the Monster Taming genre. The initial reveal trailer looked bad to me honestly, worse than Legends. I know people don’t care about graphics but those same people would still enjoy the games if the were better, it isn’t a crime to expect quality work from the world most profitable franchise.

  4. My issue is more that they seem to be branching more into the idea of 'playing with friends.' then focusing on your own single adventure. While it's cool, three different pathways, but a lot of what I got so far from S/V. Was that the idea of playing together, working together, traveling together, rather than going through a story and challenge by yourself. Which then also concerns me, cause that content more likely won't be much, and instead it'll be more the 'experience' of playing with others, that'll be the driving force. Leaving the core story, just a side piece.

  5. Yeah… when I saw the first trailer I wasn't convinced. Also, I don't like the art style change in this entry I literally thought the humans looked like the human characters from Digimon ReArise when I saw them. Not to mention I think Gen 9 has the WORST Protagonist design in the series… that first trailer I didn't realize the Girl MC was shown first and thought it was only the Boy MC throughout until I double-check.

Even if Red from Gen 1 had a bit of a generic design he at LEAST stood out from the rest and since Crystal both Male and Female Protagonist had their own unique designs to set them apart. Now Gen 9 makes both Male and Female look identical and the school uniform is so bland. Heck, I know we don't know everything yet in SV but I have YET to see the MC have custom clothes that don't have that school uniform theme.

The character designs are hit or miss like I LOVE the Professor designs and I love rival Nemora's look, but some of the other characters not so much. That Team Star Mela character? Her design I feel would be perfect if not for those outrageous boots. They're too big, they can keep the design but make them smaller or form fitting. Sure, Pokemon has over-the-top designs but that still had balance and work well with the overall design. Mela? No… too much.

And splitting the 3 main stories apart? I mean for an Open World game… is there really that much need to do so? I understand if they want players to tackle whatever story they want first or like, but at the end of the day aren't we going to do them all?

Sure, I did like Legends Arceus initially… but once I got to the endgame and had to fill the dex which was what I was concerned it really soured my experience especially getting to Arceus because of the Time Space areas to catch certain Pokemon. And using one of the ride Pokemon that can run across the fields, but you CAN'T throw Pokeballs while on him was a dumb decision especially when you can do it with the swimming ride Pokemon.

I do like some of the new Pokemon in Gen 9 like the Megaman-like Pokemon and the Legends are fine, but considering you TECHINICALLY get a Legendary Pokemon most likely at the start of the game that serves as your vehicle and you evolve it into its Legendary form… it kinda takes away what makes a Legendary Pokemon a Legendary Pokemon especially when EVERYONE even NPC has the Pokemon even if pre-evolved form.

At least Cosmog in Sun/Moon was in the story that followed Lillie before the buildup to catch them as the Legendary Pokemon to add to your team. Heck, even Gen 5 had it where you HAVE to catch the Legendary Pokemon Zekrom/Reshiram, but that was near the end of the game.

Everything seems par for the course, but then what moves are removed? They add gimmicks each Generation after Gen 6 (Gen 7 kept Megas because there was a demand for their return) and it gets tiresome when what's the point when they continue to remove each features and some of them were good features like Shinies on the overworld from LGPE, the Radar from ORAS, using your own Pokemon to ride on in LGPE.

I'm just… exhausted with their decisions. My brother's getting the double-pack so he's going to lend him his copies to try out as I'm not getting the games, but so far SV I just don't care really. Give me back my Megas, give me fun post-game content like Gen 2 and 5 did, keep the good features that really improve raising and catching Pokemon.

Just none of this "surprise" in the next game mindset that have.

    Sorry for the rant.

  6. I fully expect to enjoy this game, but am a bit deflated by the high chance of very minimal post-game content. After replaying Pokemon BW, and now playing TemTem, I'm really enjoying post-game activities of building stronger teams and exploring further areas, and modern pokemon just does not have this. Sword and shield post-game was just raids and then DLC a year later, so I'm worried that as soon as I finish SV there won't be as much incentive to keep playing it until DLC comes out a year later

  7. IM WORRIED THAT IT’S GOING TO BE TO EASY. GYM SCALING NOT THE WILD POKÉMON BASED OFF OF HOW MANY BADGES YOU ALREADY HAVE. PLA IS MAIN LINE. BDSP IS JUST DP BUT BETTER ANIMATION QUALITY AND EASIER.

  8. With Pokemon you’re basically paying more for a lot less, specifically when you put into consideration that if you want the full experience, you probably need to buy both versions. Like how the Pokemon company still gets away with cutting content and selling it to you both versions is beyond me. What pisses me off about Pokemon is that we’re talking about the biggest company in gaming and the effort is just not there, like they’re indie games with much better care and quality than the recent Pokémon games.

  9. I do worry about the barren areas. I hope that when it comes to filling those areas, that it isn't just with Pokemon. Having Pokemon in a Pokemon game is to me a bare minimum. I want people, items, secrets, lore, culture, world-building; the stuff that makes a place memorable and make me want to learn more about. Though with how much instant-gratification there is in newer Pokemon games, I doubt there will be much of that.

  10. When you compare violet and scarlet to sun and moon – too many similarities. I’ll be honest, I did pre order both violet, scarlet, temtem and coromon, and honestly I was more excited for temtem and coromon then the new coming Pokémon games. Temtem doesn’t disappoint and I think game freak needs to see what the competition is doing different to keep our interests. I’m keeping legends out of this – as it wasn’t exactly like the “main stream Pokémon game(s)” we have gotten. It’s different, and while it was a good different, they should take that and make it more, not combine it with sun and moon “ways”….I dunno, I’m hoping to be happily surprised and shocked, but i’ve Been playing temtem and can’t put it down and seeing the trailers for the new Pokémon games is kinda underwhelming…..(love Pokémon so don’t think this is me hating, I’m just worried and concerned)

  11. I’m also a tad p.o’d that Pokémon (not including sv) keep reusing the same Pokémon more or less. Ok…great…we get growlithe and arcanine…alright…unfezant too…uh huh…they have over 700 Pokémon…why keep reusing the same ones? Not only that, like, update it (if possible) to more then just like up to 200 Pokémon per game. And remember when we could just “transport” Pokémon from game to game that we already had? Yeah…without pokebank being a cash grab? I’ve also noticed with games in general – like soul caliber for example, when I played s.c 2 – you got all the characters and had to fulfil acheviements to unlock a character or outfits or things, now you get less of that and more “buy the dlc, buy this character for 9 bucks, but then get an outfit of hers for 6 bucks per outfit, and don’t even talk to me about the “bundles” b.s. what happened to the game industry? They make it big and it goes to they’re heads and they just want cash grabs till they’re fans peace out.

  12. Pokemon games have always been annoying to me, because you could never just catch them all in one copy of your game, you either personally had to buy the other version of the game or dare I suggest this myth, have friends.
And then on top are those event exclusive legendary pokemon, which if you didn't keep up or had any source of info when they were given out you were sheer out of luck of ever finding these, a terrible system.
The last I played was Black Pearl or something, and only until the elite 4, Platinum was the last I kinda liked story wise, but my favorites will always be yellow and crystal, but even those had major flaws as written above.
I just want a pokemon game where I can literally catch them all, a self-contained true single player experience that doesn't involve buying X amount of season passes or go out of your way to go to certain spots to get an event pokemon, I want things ingame, and until they can deliver me that, I won't be interested in the pokemon games anymore.

  13. I am being honest, I agree that the hate for Pokemon sword and shield is overblown. I actually even liked a lot of the things that people criticize. I didn't mind that the game was easy. I didn't mind that the dungeons were short and linear. I didn't even mind the villains logic being so incredibly stupid because it made him unrelatable, and aren't I supposed to not like the villain? I even heard someone say that the game was worse than Sonic the Hedgehog 2006. Just, no.
