My Big Fat Greek Wedding movie commentary reaction
My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a charming and fun movie that we loved making a commentary for. It does a great job of showing the struggles of a woman, played by Nia Vardalos, trying to find her own identity and marry the man she loves without sacrificing her culture and heritage.

The couch 🛋️
My sister in law got herself an $600 loveseat 8 years ago
It’s turned into a cat couch
We still haven’t sat on it
Aunt voula is hilarious. I feel toula’s embarrassment, though cuz an aunt like that would embarrass me too.
This movie gave me a really interesting vibe about windex. I can’t think of it without giggling a little
I love the mom influencing the dad to let her go to school/work at the travel agency. It reminds me of a story i heard where a christian woman told her husband that men like intelligent women nowadays so her daughter could go to college.
THE HAIR😮
I forgot how much I love this movie. I relate so much to Toula especially as I get older. It's inspiring to see someone break out of the mold at any age. It's also nice to have characters like this who serve as a gentle reminder that we all come into our own at our own pace, that there is no timetable on happiness, but you can't just sit around and wait for things to come to you. Sometimes you have to show up for the universe in order for the universe to show up for you (i.e. putting yourself out there, making moves to get closer to your goals/dreams, etc). I also kind of love how as much of the movie is about the comedy around joining two families together, the love story is kind of secondary. It's more about Toula discovering what she wants out of life than it is about the "love story". It's the rarest of rom-coms, one in which the romance is almost a secondary character and not really the point. I love that the most.
Can you guys watch Sing next
From 9:13 to 9:20: "He's supposed to be not Greek… whitest of white" – dude, Greece is a country in Europe. Greeks ARE white.
45:53 – can someone explain to me what those torches are supposed to mean now? i genuinely don't understand why he made that reference or how they have a negative connotation now…
Okay, guys, just wait until you have a daughter. Then you'll understand the Dad's point of view here about not knowing if this is a good guy and a good enough guy for his daughter.
The Best Man is married to one of the cuisines in the 2nd movie =D
I adore this movie, and Toula is very relatable. Also RIP Michael Constantine. ❤
I saw this in the theatre with my greek best friend, 2 sisters, and mom. No lie 4 of her cousins were also in the theatre. It's so true in America at the time it was made.
This movie is kind of relatable to my parents because my dad is from El Salvador and my mom is from Honduras and my mom's side did not like my dad at first because he wasn't Honduran, and my dad's side still don't like my mom (After 24 years of marriage) because she's not from El Salvador. Still kind of weird to me because the countries are almost identical culturally and are right next to each other.
I nearly forgot Joey Fatone was in this movie OH MY GOD. I almost screamed his name out and it's 1:30 am over here ahahahaha
My family is a little like this. My dad's side is very much like Toula's, big and loud and boisterous with our own ethnic foods and traditions, and my mom's side is more like Ian's, with no more than 1-2 kids per family, and my mom's sister pointed out to me that when my sisters and I were around our dad's side of the family, or even just together, we somehow all managed to talk at the same time and understand each other, and she thought it was so loud and confusing and overwhelming, but I didn't even realize we were doing that until she pointed it out. I can't even imagine what it would be like to only have two first cousins. If we include my 7 step-cousins who have been part of our family for over 20 years, I have 16 first cousins. And many, many more 2nd and 3rd cousins. And I have 9 nieces (4) and nephews (5). I can't even fathom something as quiet and reserved as Ian's family.
42:56 omg this Scottish is girl is now officially Australian I got the joke!! Can I have my Aussie citizenship now cause all the citizenship paperwork is driving me insane 😂😂😂
As a 1st generation Pakistani born in Scotland…. This movie was both triggering AND a salve…. Love it
I saw this movie in theaters 10 TIMES with my mom. It was her family to a T (substitute Puerto Rican/Spaniards) with Greeks and same damn life!
