  1. I would think a horizontal landing system, at least for the first few landings. Until a prepared flat surface can be built. We have seen too many tall lander tip overs so far…

  2. So you're showing manned Rockets landing on the naked rocky Moondirt.
How big would you estimate the chances of successful retstarts to earth ?

Why not do better and send a mission " Moon-Primer " first,
    containing a RoS, a remote-operated-Skidsteer to prepare a Landing'nRestart-Zone ?
Save landing and save restart could be more likely.

  3. NASA recently announced drone mission to Titan, which has a massive amount of available methane, so I wonder if SpaceX will someday consider using Titan as a huge gas station for Starship on deep-space missions?

  4. I wonder if it would be possible to use, with all the math testing and more math and testing, A reactive full body suit and project a magnetic field from the floor, tuned to earth gravity or just some gravity. it's probably already been thought of and I just haven't heard about it

  5. 2 launches a day to Mars??? 10 launches per launch to Mars to fuel?? So…. 22 launches per day??
Abd the astronauts will tale 6 months to get there??

    Sure Elon… please…

  6. Mars optimal launch windows are only one month long vs. the return path which is as much as 6 months. Launching a large number of ships plus refueling will require dozens of flights per day.

  7. If the starship can land on mars and the ship can suck up all the water for the crew and some kind of fuel can be used for the return trip. The only problem is food 🙄 since i will like to have 3 meals a day and some drink like cola or kfc chicken 😊

  8. No offence, but Mars future is gay. Women value quality healthcare for them and their offspring. Most also try to avoid "forced" companionship and increased rape probability. Reality check, ok?
Smart people earning enough money won't go to Mars. Because smart enough. Dumb people won't be able to pay for ticket for most part.
So they sent criminals to Australia long ago. Who will go to Mars? Bora Bora so much better and cheaper.

  9. At some point SpaceX will colonize the moon and mars with or without NASA's help. SpaceX has already flights planned that are going to go beyond much of what NASA does.

  10. WOW! Does anyone understand that things will change fast, before anyone thinks about going to the moon or Mars or……. Moon and Mars are just jump starts to other space futures. This is what we have now. Not much. Let people dream and the future will be brighter! Or you can drown in your own sorrows. Just like Musks first rockets, things will be rough. Even more with the moon and Mars being so far away. They will have to figure out how to land on the moon, while the rocket engines dig a hole, upon landing.

  11. 200 – 3/8" stainless steel cables 1000 ft long could hold 2 starships(1000 tons each) spinning at 1 turn every 2 minutes and produce 1/4 g artificial gravity. That's more than Mars and less than earth, a reasonable middle ground. Assuming the support gear weighs as much as the cables they would add 63 tons to the pair.

  12. so based on the weight of starship, the tower could be made with a less tough construction allowing more raw materials to be added to the starship on its journey.. shame i prob won't be around to see all these advances. Oh well!

  13. With the Mars departure window being every couple years, might behoove things to use the interim Starship launch potentials to build larger ships in Earth or Lunar orbit, with their design, construction, loading and boarding timed for the two year window cycle.

Like how big of a ship can we get in one wait cycle? Rather than just building smaller ships and parking them.
Would seem to be a better use of time and resources, and allow sending much larger infrastructure hunks.

They might even be one way lander ships designed to be fairly large habitats, or could be complete factories for processing available resources on Mars.

It will be interesting what the next Starship test flight teaches us about re-entry. Suposedly a new flight profile. if more time is spent in the upper atmosphere, it may be applicable to Mars entry physics. and there are some likely shapes that could be used that did double duty as entry vehicles and permanent structures, more feasible than trying to stand everything on end inside ten meter diameter towers.

One such shape is the Frisbee. would be a decent glide entry shape even in the thin atmosphere, and could use retro rockets for the final approach and set down.

And probably could be constructed quite large, and fairly light in proportion to volume.

And with a system of leveling jacks and short telescoping posts, could be leveled and set permanently.

This would be better for Colonial Morale, if they had gym sized or larger spaces, instead of living in thermos bottles for life.

The way to do that kind of shape in flat metal would be rows of reversed trapazoids cut across the rolls. Where every three cuts gets two hunks… Kind of a faceted shape… floor could be flat. Basically a round airfoil that is thick for good lift potential.

And perhaps welded up into pie wedge shapes launched into orbit and assembled there.

Its better to keep the Starships busy than just parking them for months or years. And you could then send both the regular ships, and the Frisbee domes at the same time.

Also some potential of using those dome ships as center sections for artificial gravity for normal tube ships, or combining them clamshell to make Mars Gateway orbital stations.

Its not a bad shape for multi use, kind of the Quonset Hut of this century.

  14. I doubt a returning starship from Mars will re-enter Earth atmosphere and probably just park at some space station to offload to a transport. Much the same way planes don't drop you off at the hotel.

  15. They talked about the same things back in the 60's & 70's.
Talked of Giant Wheels that would simulate gravity.
Talked of Bases on the Moon.
Talked of building Giant Ships to take us to Mars.
Talked of mining Helium 5 as a Rocket Propellant from the Moon.
    Talked
    Talked
    Talked
,,, and we are STILL in LOW Earth Orbit.
we did it a long time ago,,,
    but cannot now,
    so we talk.

  16. Honestly, Starship's Mars variant doesn't NEED to have a tether swing to "spin", it simply needs to be built interior wise with living spaces horizontal, and have the ship itself start a spin where you'd be standing on the walls, sleeping against the walls etc. I don't think we're quite at the age of the tether swing spin artificial gravity… It can be done much simpler…

  17. If a human has ever been to the moon, and thats a big if. Nobody has been there in many years, but they are supposed to be able to just build and go. That's like saying im going to look at that bar of Silver and its going to turn to Gold. See we got footage of the Rich hanging out on the moon. Have you ever seen how much Hollywood can fake anything on a camera today. the funding and donations will be in the trillions of dollars, for only a Rocket launch and a few cam vids. Its a money scam.

  18. If they ever decide to use Starship for site to site cargo delivery they will have to use landing legs or have alot of "Catch Towers" all over the world. And Lets be Real Starship will not be ready to go to the Moon in 2 years more like 3 or 4 maybe. Theirs way too much to do at least 3 more Launch Towers plus 3 or 4 different types of ships need to be built and tested. They haven't even got 1 in orbit much less catching both stages with the tower

  19. We needed technical drunk (construction) with barium expanding its volume to the maximum for (after ship landing on the Moon) radiation protect.
and bickford fuse or charges from military to bury the ship lying down in regolith .(and cover with barium foam and regolith)
    D.
