Thanks again Phil. I have wondered if I need to take a break from the now spinning fb group because it really does get me spending more then I should😅. But I think instead I should take your advice here and really dive into what I have! I probably should be pickier about super deluxe boxes too 😅. Anyway thanks again Phil!

Feeling overwhelmed is quite ommon for HSPs (and people) suffering from depression.
I am 70 years old. I have suffered with anxiety and depression since I was a child. I have been an avid music collector since I was about 12. As I have grown older these problems have become worse. I am on long term medication. I still collect loads of cd's. If I said how many I haven't opened or played nobody would believe me so I am not going to say. I won't be leaving the group though. I enjoy the posts, the videos and the banter.
Many true words, play what you ,study, read, listen and enjoy.
By the way which beach are you on??
Just interested.
Ian
I am one of those who's currently taking some timeout from literally ordering cd's, box sets, vinyl on a nearly daily basis. Aside from the financial impact it was having I begun to feel I was being buried alive. There was so much I wanted to listen to obviously but also to own. As items were quickly disappearing from the market it became quite stressful. I'm still buying but have become much, much more restrictive. Like you said Phil, there has to be a connection of kind to give it that added value, maybe immersing one self and getting to know a band's work at a greater detail than one could allow time for before because of all new items coming in the post. I've had these "press the pause button" situations before and the solutions have varied. I expect I'll be back subscribing to Now Spinning in the near future but for now – Timeout. All the best and keep up the work on these Mental Health vids!
Phil, Very sound points you made about music and ones feelings. Thanks for the video and good afternoon from the U.S.A.
Hey Phil. Love these MH videos. It’s even comforting to know that cynicism is common for us older blokes! (Actually, it’s not cynicism- it’s realism!) 😊Love your work, Dude. Cheers from Oz
Very sound advice Phil. I go through stages of ordering heaps because I don't want to miss out on certain products. I'm more discerning with what I buy now & stream it first to see if I actually like it. So far this is working for me & I'm starting to go through some of the box sets that I've bought. I also have different listening arrangements in the house from my stereo in the lounge, to my iPod in the kitchen, to headphones in the bedroom. These options allow for easy access to my music collection. For quite awhile I've been downloading the cds I've bought onto my computer so this is another access to listen to or transfer to my iPod. It's a bit of a hobby to keep me more attached to my music 🎵 as well. Thanks for all you do Phil, I always get something out of your videos. ❤
Thanks Phil, sound sense as always. When I lost my Dad back in 1980, for the first time in my life I couldn’t face playing any music at all not even my beloved Beatles but eventually I put on Mike Oldfield’s Ommadawn, no idea why I chose it at that time but it really helped and I felt like I had started to “thaw” if that makes sense… such a calming and beautiful album and it still has the same effect on me to this day. It was there for me again, so to speak, after I lost my Mum and then years on, my brother. My go to album whenever stress engulfs me is Neil Young’s Harvest. When those opening lines “think I’ll pack it in and buy a pick up, take it down to L.A.” wash over me I feel so much relief. Music can do that, you just need to find the right song or album that connects with you.
Phil. I have been following your channel for a while now. These topics you take on music for mental health are absolutely amazing!!! Thanks for this. I always go back to certain albums when I feel sad..!🙏🙏
Actually Phil, I am more overwhelmed with discovering old music rather than the new ones! Thanks to streaming platforms like Spotify and YouTube,, I am discovering thousands upon thousands of obscure and long forgotten singles and albums of all genres. And they are from all over the globe. My mind is always occupied and alert. This is important for people like us who are 60 plus. A great hobby that improves mental health.
I get frustrated not being able to get CDs for my collection because they're out of print now. I only collect my top 25 artists on my shelves and anything else in CD books. I've got music for every mood. I was having a terrible day today until I put on Dr John's Gumbo and that was that… life was okay again.
Hi Phil, Thank you for the mental health check-in! Music is indeed a healer for me. I do suffer from FOMO, but I do have to be realistic with finances and like you said, I encourage myself to enjoy what I have when I decide not to pick up new box sets and so forth. I too have go to albums for when I am down and I have albums that have life memories burned into them as well. Keep rockin’ and be safe!
Yes Phil as I am going through a difficult time! Some good observations and advice! 👍
Wise words as always, Phil.
We are inundated with boxsets and new releases so i tend to watch less of such videos unless they contain a band / artist i'm interested in. I prefer to concentrate on the few purchases made each year and become familiar with the music. Last year Hawkwind released arguable one of their very finest albums and i didn't want additional distractions by purchasing new music for a few weeks. Same with the Stray and Ozric albums. Although not a strict rule i purchase about 6 albums per year which i find manageable.
Love this Phil, thank you for your wise words 👍
such a useful 5mins of video – many thanks Phil – I can completely relate to this… I collect CD's but listen to flacs via my phone or stereo, I love listening to a whole album rather than just odd tracks from here and there… I also like looking at those rock family trees books by Pete Frame… life would be awful without music… please keep making the video's 🙂
Phil well said mate. Fantastic video on the beach very helpful topic. An excellent way to connect us all. Thank you for that from Houston 🇺🇸 Cheers
