Pilar shows us the Murcia Cathedral and tells an interesting story about its construction. She also reminds us that everyone has been given talents and gifts by God, and we can all use these gifts to glorify Him.
Translation:
Hi, I’m Pilar. I’m 9 years old. I live in Murcia in Spain. I moved here from Gandía in July.
Today I want to show you Murcia Cathedral. Actually, it’s called the Cathedral of St. Mary because the cathedral owner’s name is Mary. No, it’s a joke.
It located in the historical centre of Murcia. Did you know that it’s the symbol of the city? What a lot of people don’t know is that the cathedral used to be a muslim mosque until it was converted for Catholic use. The largest door in front is called the Door of Forgiveness, and can only be opened on very special occasions. The bell tower is 305 ft tall. It’s the second tallest cathedral tower in Spain.
Look at the stone sculpted chains that go around the chapel. The legend says that the chains were built by a beggar who bragged to the Marquis of Vélez that he was a great sculptor and that he would make the chains. He was told that if the Marquis didn’t like it then he would die, and if he did like it then he would live a peaceful life. When the sculptor finished, everybody was surprised by the great work of art he created. The sculptor later decided to move to somewhere else, but in fear of him producing more beautiful work for others, his hands were cut off so that he couldn’t ever build anything ever again, and his tongue was cut off so that he couldn’t ever tell anyone how to make it. Poor guy! Why did they have to do that after he did something so great for them?
James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
The verse tells us that every gift is from God. We all have different talents and gifts given by God, but they are all important and can be used
for the kingdom of God. That is what the sculptor did, but in the end, after producing something beautiful for the Lord, they did that to him. What a pity!
Thats all for today guys. Nice pictures and videos with Pilar! ’Til later!
