Reasons why Amber's story is unbelievable:
– How are you rebel, who's suspended from school all the time, very clique-ish and doesn't care about anything, but is voted the nicest? That's usually something that the more outgoing and popular people get? If you don't talk to any and everyone, you usually don't get that one.
– This is high school. Even though a teenager might not be able to proper articulate why they don't like someone, they are usually good enough to give you an inkling as to why and aren't to shy about it, especially if others can feel it. If this happened 5 years ago, I might have given it a pass, but this is at least 15 years ago. Teenagers were way better at social literacy then even if they just felt that the others were too 'stuck up."
– Attacker doesn't like Amber and her best friend the most. The wording doesn't make much sense given that it's Amber's best friend who it part of the fight. So why is Amber naming herself as the most hated in the story, especially since it's was her best friend who was the one talking and fighting. Amber claims she didn't throw any punches, so why is she including herself in the fight at all.
– It's all a blur. While it is possible that it actually was, she gives a bit too much detail afterwards. I mean, it's its happening so fast, why do you see an earring flying. That's something that you learn after the fight has stopped.
– I don't know her school's procedures, but I don't know any school that didn't have any cameras in the mid 90's let alone by the 2000's. Yeah, to get verbal details, the school would ask questions, but most would still go to the video to see who threw the first punch.
– Again, why is she even being involved in this. She claims that she didn't through any punches. She didn't even go to back up her best friend (crap friend there). According to her, she wasn't even in the 15 group pile up. While everyone else is huffing, dishelved, and out of breath, she should be the only one put together.
– The only reason why the school would punish her in this situation was if she was the instigator of the fight. Back then. instigation was just as bad actual fighting, sometimes worst depending on what was done. G
– Again with not knowing school procedures, but most schools wouldn't just escalate such behaviours to court. The only reason why this would be happening would have to deal with what I mentioned above and what was done to instigate the situation. It could also go back to the first question about her 'rebellious' nature. If she has a history of being suspended all that time, she would definitely have many behavioural red flags that the school couldn't deal with and she would have to have appeal to the school board to continue school.
– Stealing a laptop wasn't all that easy. The cost of most of them made them a very personalized item to whomever had them. They were not something that someone would just set down and easily walk away from. Plus, while not as big and bulky as many expected, laptops and their cases were easily recognizable and rare. Carrying a laptop then is equivalent to walking around with a PS5 strapped to your hip. That said, there is also the issue of courthouses, along with all govt buildings, have these things like cameras, security guards and metal detectors.
