Anyone in financial strains due to unexpected funeral expenses can see if there is a Community Action or organization to help. I had to apply for help cremating my father and the funeral home accepted the check from the Community Action and waived the rest of the money. But it depends on if your loved one had life insurance or any amount of funds to help– my dad didn't though I had been in the process of trying to convince him to get life insurance.
