Learn to expand your means, while living below your means ππ» Is Anika going to be in Vegas February Event?
Love it. That's the struggle for me. Finding that balance to make sure my son is able to be given experiences but also not lose focus of the vision. Love that someone actually talked about it and that you both say you regret not maybe having a little more experiences. We aren't guaranteed tomorrow π
Thanks to Anna Kelly for acknowledging and affirming the importance of "living below your means". From Amazon to Targets & Walmarts of this world want people to shop till they drop without thinking about what one can/can't afford besides budgeting and saving for the rainy day.
Great podcast and an eye opener.
Another lesson for kids in the USA: There are 8,000,000,000 people on Earth. There were only 2,000 Ferraries made this year, or there have been 300,000 air Jordans made this year. Why do you think you get one this year?
I agree but extreme frugality is not good either. I house hack and track my monthly expenses. I aim to just cut out unconscious spend. I have decided that I'm clearly at the point of diminishing returns and don't need to sweat it more than that. When you consider the opportunity cost of your attention, then getting upset about buying an occasional latte is highly irrational when I'm saving almost 2k a month on mortgage. I know Graham Stephan says that a $5 latte is actually worth $40 to $80 of your future income, but that doesn't account for the utility of money, and I would expect to derive more utility out of spending money earlier than later in life. Spending it now is certain while the future is uncertain. Just my two cents, as most of us will need to also outgrow our stubborn frugality at some point.
Remember, you have the power to choose positivity in any situation. Let's embrace positivity and make the most out of every moment!
Great discussion. My only wish is that high schools taught simple money management. Unfortunately, our public schools are built to produce fast food employees. The rich send their children to private schools to learn something completely different…the setup for a class system starts with a government education system paid for with your taxpayer dollars.
