    Meanwhile the owner is probably going through an existential crisis

    Growing up, I had a couple outdoor cats. One of them went out one night and didn't return. We called for him multiple times a day. We drove all around our area.(mile side peninsula) We did this for 2 months. Suddenly one day I was walking down my driveway and I heard a faint cat meow. I looked all around and couldn't see anything but i could hear it. Suddenly I saw a flag of movement in the window of my neighbors basement. There he was walking back and forth getting my attention. I went over there and got him out. I have no clue how long he was there because he didn't look too bad(malnourished). He lost a bit of weight but it wasn't terrible. I don't know if there were mice in that basement. Or if he was eating food left by my neighbors sons who played music every night in their basement. Or if he went in there the night before somehow. Needless to say he acted like he wasn't missing. He came in and while my mother and sister were crying and I was really happy. He just say there looking at his bag of salmon meat treats. It was like nothing ever happened. Tbf he was an outdoor cat but other than that he never went longer than half a day without coming inside. I feel like my other cat would have found him too if he were outside. It's a mystery that I'll never know the answer to.
