  1. Yes! Time for Haru. Makoto is best girl, but Haru is a close second for me. love her aesthetic.

As for the drama, a lot has been said about it, but I think people tend to make way too much of a deal over the perceived problems with the writing. Fact is, as much as we all love him, Ryuji is just generally kind of a dumbass. Yes, Morgana points this out a lot, but it’s always in response to something actually dumb or careless he says or does, not just some unprovoked abuse. It’s also worth remembering that they’re speaking Japanese and in the original script, Morgana is usually just calling him a Baka most of the time, which is not an insult that comes with a lot of weight or lasting sting. Ryuji is also very self aware about his own dumbness. They mutually lay into each other, but until this point I would actually say that nothing rises to the point of being especially hurtful.

And on Morgana’s end, it isn’t just because of Ryuji. It isn’t even entirely about him feeling useless. It’s a deeper crisis about who and what he even is. When discussing this arc, people rarely seem to mention his nightmare and the weight that it clearly has on his psyche. He has this clear self image of who he should be as a human in mind, and then he sees this image of himself born like a shadow in the depths of Mementos. He doesn’t flake just because Ryuji calls him useless or even because he feels useless after Makoto and Futaba join; after having firm conviction from the start of the game about his identity, he is suddenly doubting and questioning his own existence as all this builds to a head.

That all said, Morgana is of course far from blameless and much could be avoided if he chose to talk thing through with everyone.

  2. 37:48 About your theory Evan her outfit is part of her rebellion just like all the other Phantom Thieves which they had no control over how it is made. I see what you were getting at by that, but I don't think it makes sense because Morgana and her didn't know each other before then and you are way overthinking this theory as well when she noticed him outside the palace she referred to him as just "that cat". I think when he said Master he was probably referring to you as in Joker cause he was like in a state of supposed "near death" so probably assumed you were came to rescue him is my guess.

  3. 48:15 She now officially has a name. Makoto never does beat around the bush when it comes to these things as usual! But glad to see we finally met her with a name. She is so adorable and pure as you guys were saying. Probably my favorite character! Looking forward to next time and seeing where this arc leads now that you know of the Palace & the new character!

  4. This arc of the story is rather infamous, with the tensions between Ryuji and Morgana coming to a head.
While Morgana’s perhaps not entirely unjustified in feeling he has become less essential to the team with the recent additions, he’s been at Ryuji’s throat most of the story so far and did something insanely reckless once the guy started to fight back. It’s safe to say a solid share of the blame lies with him, regardless of how justified or unjustified you think his feelings of inadequacy were.

  5. Bunch of weirdos bringing their reddit opinions in the comment section. Look at the words and the terminology used in the discussion of this arc, all comments are consistent pointing to a hive mind or echo chamber where things are generally agreed. I found this arc to be quite good but the antagonistic was not my cup of tea. Also this conflict will be better understood if the commenters had better reading comprehension or play the game in Japanese.

  6. Welp,Morgana has left the party with all his pent-up frustrations! Kinda curious to see how this all plays out…
38:40 "I wanna get her OnlyFans" Morgana says as a sort of mumble so Haru wouldn't understand (this is just for the sake of memes alright?)
And lastly, yeah,I think this is both Morgana and Ryuji's fault. Ryuji for repeatedly calling Morgana useless out of the blue. And Morgana for having too much pride and not talking with the others. I guess in his eyes talking about feelings is seen as weakness. But at least talk to Joker or Ann (especially Joker) what did they do to you??

  7. Thankfully this is the only of a few parts where the writers just kinda gave up or had no plan to get people where they were needed without making people act ooc for a bit. Or maybe I just give them too much credit, who knows?
Thank GAWD it ends quickly tho.

  8. Its time for one of the most frustrating palaces in the entire game! Your lucky your not playing og 5 cause it was much worse in that also this is the part of the game where if you have maruki at a semi low rank you should start raising it now because now have until november to get his rank to 10 otherwise you aren't going to be able to access the 3rd semester oh and also its time for FLOOOOOOOF

  9. So the thing about this is that Morgana thinks he'll be seen as weak if he openly expresses himself, his tough guy act is only a mask because he wants to be seen as useful. His arc is about accepting who he is as a person regardless of apperances and that it's ok to expresse your feelings to people. When I first played this game I immeiately understood where they were going with it. But the thing I get irritated about is that people who hate Morgana only look at the argument and not everything that lead up to it. I looked at BOTH as I worked my way to okumura and did my best to understand where they were at and why this argument happened. People get angry and say stuff that they don't mean, but because it meant Morgana got the focus for awhile these people who hate him just wanted to demonize every little thing he said or did without taking the time to truly understand his charachter. It makes me glad I jumped on board late so I could form my own opinion on the whole thing.

  10. As someone who has Ryuji as my favorite character, he's definitely not innocent in this whole conflict. Morgana isn't wrong that Ryuji was becoming conceited over the popularity of the Phantom Thieves and trying to use it to pick up chicks (he gets very close to just straight up telling some girls he's one if you hang out with him in Hawaii), that's kinda the point. Part of the reason I like Ryuji a lot is because he's pretty much the only character in the game that gets negative character development as things progress. I like seeing characters who are usually good start having their flaws intensified as time goes on (which is also part of why I like Kaito from Danganronpa a lot) because it makes them feel a lot more real to me. Ryuji is absolutely obnoxious in the time between Futaba's palace and the beginning of the Okumura arc, but he's meant to be, so I don't really mind it even if it is frustrating.

Morgana's crisis was foreshadowed really well throughout the game. He gradually begins to lose his functions in the game as more people join in (Makoto takes over analyzing enemies while Futaba takes over the navigation aspect) so it makes sense that he'd start feeling useless to the group. He's also prideful and doesn't feel comfortable exposing his anxieties to others, so it ultimately leads him to bottle everything up until it eventually explodes. I can relate to that kind of thing (though it's not really about pride for me) so I don't hold anything against him in regards to that. The execution of the whole arc is… not great though.

Both Ryuji and Morgana are their worst here, so it makes sense for things between them to go really sour since they've had a much more vitriolic relationship from the get-go. What started as just banter (Ryuji really isn't as bothered by Morgana taking shots at him as people seem to want him to be) eventually becomes actual insults and things start breaking apart. I honestly don't think the character writing in this section of the story is as bad as people make it out to be.

  11. Let's be real, Morgana is being an absolute brat here. It's Ryuuji's fault? Morgana has been shit talking him at every opportunity since Day 1 and Ryuuji just put up with it. The second Morgana gets a little return fire he runs away from home. Honestly, his treatment of Ryuuji has always been inexcusable but played for laughs. This bit always came across as a little forced to me.

    – Okumura – Christopher Corey Smith

Yeah…. This part of the story is… widely disliked. I have a hard time sympathizing with Morgana because he’s been treating Ryuji like shit from day one and now we’re supposed to see him as the victim? Hardly. Like Ryuji isn’t helping right now but I don’t blame him for it.

Huh. Seems that Kasumi’s idea that people would begin to rely too heavily on the Phantom Thieves had some merit after all. What do you know.

  14. So a lot of people in the comments are defending ryuji or Morgana and making the issue to be black and white when it’s really not.

They have been mocking each other since day 1 the problem is only morgana started being hurt by it. Because morgana has been having problems since makoto joined. He felt useless when makoto joined because she is smarter, felt useless when futa a joined because now she is the nav, they ate his sushi, they forgot his present. And a lot of other small things that have been piling up. The issue here isn’t “don’t dish it out if you can’t take it” the issue is they both use to be able to dish it out and take it but. Morgana was starting to get actually hurt by these things and didn’t tell his friends. And that his friends didn’t notice that he was being hurt.

It’s crazy it’s almost like things aren’t black and white and that there is some sort of depth to things.

Okumura is actually based on a real Japanese politician… Who is still in office today.

    His name is Miki Watanabe.

Also, arranged marriages are quite common in Japan, especially when it comes to business and politics. That is how most family owned businesses stay family owned even when they have only daughters, they have their daughter marry and adopt the son-in-law into the family.

  16. 22:09 oh? You think the teacher is acting like that only because this game was made before Trump was elected president of a different country? Well, let me remind you this game is social commentary on issues in Japan. Okumura is almost certainly based on Miki Watanabe, the president of the Watami restaurant chain. Like Big Bang Burger and Okumura, Watami started in Japan but expanded overseas as it got popular and Watanabe eventually left the company to go into politics. He didn't win his election for mayor of Tokyo, but he did make it into the House of Councilors (kind of like the Japanese equivalent of the US senate) in 2013. He achieved this despite his company being a notorious black company, meaning that yes many Watami employees were dying from being overworked. People don't always care about the details or the ethics when electing someone.

  17. So here we've reached the Ryuji/ Morgana fight. They've been at each other from the very beginning of the game, and all this pressure both internally (Makoto and Futaba joining the team, taking over Morgana's roles) and externally (the hype is reaching ludicrous levels) has caused their bickering to become a full-blown argument.

While Morgana has never acted very nice towards Ryuji ("stupid blonde monkey" definitely wasn't his first insult towards Ryuji), Ryuji hasn't been very great to Morgana, either, offering backhanded insults towards Morgana while praising others in the same sentence (specifically when Makoto and Futaba joined).

Personally, I think they're both in the wrong here. Morgana is too prideful to ask for help and calls Ryuji names. Ryuji, whether intentionally or not, keeps backhandedly insulting Morgana and only increasing Morgana's insecurities (which he admittedly doesn't talk about much). It's all a huge mess where neither side, I believe, is really in the right.

  18. Cute little side note because of those comments Joker made about worrying about Morgana. In Vanilla, Morgana would periodically sleep on Joker's stomach at night. Joker would make a mental comment about feeling a weight on his stomach while sleeping restlessly.

  19. Something that no one else seems to be brining up is that arranged marriages "In this day and age" as Ali put it isn't rare in other countries especially japan. If your the son or daughter of a powerful/wealthy family it would be weird if you didn't have an arranged marriage. Hell adults will be adopted by family's if they are to be the next in charge, so it stays in the family. Toyota still does this.

  20. Okay in ryujis defense morgana is the one who the minute they meet is just unnecessarily harsh and cruel to ryuji and for a while ryuji really does only tend to insult morgana in retaliation but morgana keeps it up from the beginning of the game to now, it's just unfortunate ryuji starts insulting first at the point where morganas having a crisis and is insecure enough to let ryujis words affect him, where otherwise it'd bounce of him like it does ryuji.

Like morgana calls ryuji a moron or uncouth or something similar in almost every interaction, ryuji firing back with something he doesn't realise is affecting morgana that deeply leading to morgana leaving isn't 100% ryujis fault. He's accountable for sure but I don't think the whole thing rests at his feet

Just my two cents about it anyway since I know the argument the two have is really divisive
Oh also morgana insists on targets being unanimous and then throws a tantrum when the outcome doesn't align with his wishes. I don't mind this arc or that inciting argument as much as most people do I just think there was definitely a more natural way, using all the characters to reach this point more naturally
Edit: 28:01 tbf why would he? We know the reason morgana lashed out is because of the build up of ryujis comments about him being useless and know that morgana is hurt but ryujii and the thieves only saw morgana lash out kinda out of nowhere coz they're all shit at communicating. Plus again, it's no defense but morgana would 100% act the same way if the situation was reversed , with barely mentioning ryuji unless to make some sort of snide comment or remark.
Sorry for the multiple rants I just love ryuji and thing the situation is way more complicated than "ryuji being dumb and mean to morgana is 100% the reason morgana left"

  21. Yep. Haru's being forced into an arranged marriage for the sake of the company.

In addition to all the palaces being based on the 7 deadly sins, they're also centered around common social problems in Japan. Teachers having inappropriate relationships with and abusing students, plagiarism, organized crime, companies overworking their employees (often to the point of suicide, heart failure, or severe anxiety), and other problems that you haven't gotten to yet. While not as common as it once was, the practice of marrying the daughters of company owners to hand-picked successors in order to keep the business in the family is still a thing in Japan, especially in the more elite social circles.

  22. It's the funny thing in series where background characters look generic as hell that to characters in universe everyone looks equally unique even though that isn't communicated at all to players 😀

  23. 14:30 Morgana has been a Major A-hole to Ryuji for almost 100% of the game while Ryuji took most of it with only little comeback until the Futaba arc. even in this discussion here Morgana called him a Blond Carnal Monkey and Ryuji didnt really say anything back (what they have shown here was a flashback after all) So yeah i got ZERO sympathy for Morgana here, and making Ryuji the villain here is one of Two time this game Extremely does Ryuji Dirty. the other time will come in the future and i will point it out when it happen. (Game veterans know exactly what i mean).

also as an extra side note. if i had a co-worker who calls me a moron 100% of the time, i would also give zero-shits about what happens to them ,so dont go so hard on ryuji for not Pretending like he is in super distress over Morgana disappearance.
