  1. Crisis really ruined the Legion and any other concept based on a time difference to the present day in DC comics like Justice Society of America, etc.

The great darkness sage is the best place to jump on for the Bronze age. Keith giffen's art with Paul Levitz script in issues 287 to 313 is a real high point due to the phenomenal Keith Giffen art and Paul Levitz script.

The post zero hour legion is also the most dollar bin-able and it is pretty good through the Abnett Lanning Running but you need to appreciate the Archie comics style of Jeff Moy to enjoy it.

I was stoked to sell both those runs to someone who had lost those issues in a fire last year and appreciated the significance

  2. It was the mini series ‘Supergirl & The Legion of Superheroes from 2006-2008 during her reintroduction to the DC universe that helped me find a way into the Legion mythos, recently retold somewhat in the 2023 DC Animated movie ‘Legion of Super-Heroes. Good intro for me. 🚀🪐

  3. Thanks for featuring my comment! I normally put one layer of bubble wrap around the stack, of 50 books, and it fits snuggly in the box . So far I have done this about 30 times, and all positive reviews! I always try and throw in a $5.00 book at top of stack to entice people to get them all.

  4. Sigh. i hate to admit but I am one of those that still have every comic that I have ever bought since 1983. That’s almost 60000 books…and yes they take up a ton of space. Never moving as it would be too much work at this point that’s for sure.

  5. I personally go the storage unit route for my larger collection, and I love it. Climate controlled facilities with (1) an outer fence and (2) cameras inside, have an extremely low break-in rate, and you can feel safe keeping books there. I recommend drawer boxes in the unit – makes pulling books and series super easy.

  6. I am a reader, but I try to get rid of as many books as possible and keep the ones I want. So all I keep are my favorites and the keys. Everything else I have to keep on a constant churn due to space issues.

  7. I like John's pragmatic solution to selling non-keys in bulk – have them stolen from a storage unit and then you collect the insurance.
When someone says Legion Of Super-Heroes I immediately think of the Great Darkness Saga. And when someone says single most memorable cover I think of #1 of the 1984 series with the silver logo over the blue background.
Wolfman and Perez were very good at the socially relevant stories like this Runaways tale as well as the quieter, one or two character stories like Who Is Donna Troy? And yeah, I too was stunned and a little horrified when Perez drew Terra with heavy makeup, smoking and sidling up to Deathstroke after many issues of Tara the kid and her awkward but cute relationship with Beast Boy. Wolfman and Perez sure caught me out there.
The positive side to Marvel's 1970s reprint books was that we could finally read Silver Age comics that we here in Australia had no other access to at the time.
Another excellent show Richard and John, fun and informative.

  8. I WISH I had 45 long boxes lol. My collection is over 120 longboxes, along with more than 600 digests, countless graphic novels, treasuries, et al. I’ve tried weeding out the unwanted comics but it’s too tough. I’ve got complete runs of obscure stuff like Nervous Rex (for example) that I’d NEVER get rid of. I’m too attached, and I spent last year completing runs of 50s Dell comics, so the collection is ever expanding, even while dumping books.
And re: Starlog. A local toy & comic store had issues of Starlog at $1 each going back to #1! I purchased about the first three years worth. A lot of Star Trek and Space:1999 articles, and they were really promoting Star Wars too. Fun nostalgia.

  9. Question. As someone who wants to thin out my collection how do I decide what books to let go and what to keep? I must also say I’m that person that complains when I let something go but then some character from that at book becomes the next Deadpool.
