More Airbus A220s Grounded

Iraqi Airways has been forced to ground its Airbus A220s. It joins now a long list of other airlines that have been impacted by the global engine shortage and have had to ground aircraft.

  1. I think Airbus needs to wave a LOT of money at Pratt & Whitney to fix the GTF engine problems. That's why I think CFM International may be working on a scaled-down LEAP engine specifically designed for the A220 models.

  2. Dictatorial monopolies have started to take their toll. This phenomenon is not new. World has seen Soviet Union, where few manufacturers had oligopoly causing delays in delivery whereas free world was producing innovation. Now, the world is no more free as it used to be once.

  3. What is going on at P&W? They need to bring all GTF parts back to the USAđŸ‡ș🇾.

To hell with the Global Supply Chain & USA over regulation that has destroyed USA manufacturing.

  4. I love the Iraqi Airways livery. It’s so nice to see a real airline livery that’s not just a euro white fuselage with something on the tail

  5. This is what happens when an engine is good and demand high and PW was stretched production wise to keep up with new build demands then the replacements demand started to rise due to time and PW just can't make them fast enough !!!

  6. That is a bunch of hogwash these planes are brand new. Why would they need replacement engines? Sounds more like some Climate change bullying by the evil powers that be.

  7. It's really not a shortage issue. It's that this latest generation of PW engines are plagued with multiple problems. These engines are failing at very high rate so it's causing issues.

  8. i think they're a general problem of PW1000G engines, not just because engine shortages, actually iraq grounded A220 due a problem with Acoustic liner around the propeller can effect the whole engine

  9. When will they quit lying about “global engine shortage”? These engines should last over 12,000 hr before coming off wing and they’re barely lasting 3,000 hr
. Bearing failures, seal failures causing smell in cabin events, combustion liner cracks
. There’s a reason why the other major engine manufacturers didn’t go with the GTF engine design

  10. When C-Series was launched with the new P&W geared turbo fan, they were first to launch with it. P&W Canada had been in constant cost cutting ad downsizing mode in the 1990s and all of a sudden, its got a very very popular product that Bombardier , Mitsibushi and later Airbus wanted and suspect it has had problems reversing its downsizing and finding qualified engineers to grow.
P&W got launch air when C-Series project got aunched. And with the Québec government owning 25% of Airbus Canada LP (formerly C-Series PArtnership) they may not take kindly to seeing jobs leave Québec to go to CFM. On the other hand, they are also desperate to try to recuperate the investment they make to bail out the project (an investment whose value was halved when 50% of project donated to Airbus) and the only wait to ake project profitable is to increase production and that might beome more important than saving jobs in Longueuil (P&W).

The other option would be to get P&W to invest to increase production capacity or perhaps shift some production from Longueuil to other P&W sites assuming the contract and launch air allows it.

  11. The real reasons of the issues with the airline industry are political + economical, do your own research donÂŽt swallow everything the MSM throws at you.

  12. This has raised my concern question: is Airbus who is recently becoming the next crown jeweler plane maker in the industry, are struggling with their short haul fleets? And is Pratt and Whitney going to be blamed for this situation?

  13. Airbus is ultimately responsible but this seems to be an American engine company issue. Yes, the planes are being grounded but the cause is delivery of engines. Describing the problem as an aircraft type problem is letting the likes of Pratt and Whitney off the hook – it's their problem.

  14. Dj's Aviation proved to be yet another corporate pussy cat than real aviation enthusiast. Are you sold out or afraid to put Pratt & Whitney in your titles? The problem creators should be highlighted by genuine people.
