Only found your channel this month but big respect for what you are dong for the genre and it sucks to hear people are trying to drag you through politics that frankly doesn't matter to 99% of players.
As an artist(especially one who often will use AI alongside my other tools to help me create art) I don't understand the problem with using AI as a tool to help make designs/any kind of art. It really frustrates me when people act like its removing our agency, as though it cuts the artist out of the picture. If anything, it allows the artist to be inspired and focus on refining a concept rather than taking all of their time brainstorming. It gives artist a quick way to get inspiration, visualize their thoughts. And most importantly lets them share their ideas, giving them a more tangible way to communicate with other people on their project what they're thinking without having to make a bunch of in depth mockups completely from scratch, especially since most base level concept designs are scrapped or re-envisioned along the way anyhow. Ai is a tool, the same way random generators are for coming up with ideas, digital art effect editors(just because you don't hand change each individual color to correct your white balance, or mess with your gradient map, does that mean photoshop is the artist?), and even simulators in business or research. They help take away the tedium and allow a professional to focus more on fine tuning the things they value more.
I'm not saying its impossible to misuse these tools, rely too much on them, or use them in the wrong places, but that's the same for any kind of tool, not just AI. As far as art goes, you work with the AI, tell it what you need it to do, it comes up with something, you give it feedback/rework it, repeat, and once you're satisfied with what it's given you then its up to you to turn it into a usable piece of media. Like a calculator, its just doing the busywork for you. Simply giving a person a calculator doesn't make them a mathematician. They still have to understand formulas to solve problems, and then they still have to precisely work with the calculator and understand how that calculator works to produce the desired output. And then you need to know how to properly interpret and use that output.
It comes down to an individual expertise and experience if they can use any tool well. If the designs are lacking originality, the problem isn't that they're using AI, and it's most certainly not a problem with morals. Its just a skill issue. People think AI just does all the work for you, but that's genuinely not the case.
Ive been waiting for two years to play palworld and seeing people just popping up like "what is this pokemon rip off?!" Kinda pisses me off lol. I also stayed up till 2 am to buy it and steam broke for a minute when it dropped so im assuming i wasn't the only one waiting on it 😂.

I don’t see how people can accuse you of jumping on any bandwagon when your channel is literally dedicate to monster tamer games of all kinds. You’re the one person I trust to give unbiased commentary for all of these types of games, and you’ve helped convinced me to get games like Coromon in the past which I’ve loved, so keep doing what you’re doing!
these people arent even monster tamer fans. all they do is interact with pokemon. they dont play temtem, nexomon, coromon, casette beasts. they didnt even pay attention for palworld for 3 years. now all of a sudden they wanna cherry pick things to be mad at. i cant stand pokemon fans

All the negative hype is good for game…. the more people talk abauth it, the more sales the devs will get.
Here are the few dumb comments people make and counters:
1. THE GAME WAS MADE BY AI —————- No it was not. Game pre-alfa looks were back like 3-4 years ago and looked exacly the same
2: OMG THEY RIPPED OF POKEMON —- Em…who gives a shit. Gamefreak deserves to have their assets made similar, since legaly cant do shit and i am sure some devs played their games back when they were good and they made is similar out of spite (oh also money)
3. THE GAME WILL NEVER GET FIXED OR UPDATED AND JUST CASHGRAB — well i have to stop you here. I pirated craftopia back when it came out and then pirated it again later to check if they changed anything. And yes they did update it.
4. OMG PEOPLE DIDNT EVEN CATCH THEIR 1.st member……well there is a but with steam achivments if you play in co-op…so this means more people play co-op
5. OMG THERE ARE NO SERVERS TO PLAY ON OR THEY LAG —- well how the F could devs predict they will have so many players in such a short time. They are not the mmo company that has 1000 of servers day 1.

The issue i have with the game is your own box is not even your own box if someone of your team need a specific item and its in your box well woopsie doo ITS GONE… Entire dispute and fighting with my friend about it so i quit the game… its such a trash game.

My big problem with Palworld's popularity is the fact that it's mostly popular because people want to live out their sick, sadistic animal slaughtering fantasies, and only really like the game for giving you the option to do that. It's equally infuriating when humans as a species have been getting a lower and lower opinion of nature to the point where we see it as nothing more than a collection of horrible creatures that are always cruel and disgusting and that humanity is so much better and whatnot to the point where "it's just a game" is no longer an excuse. It's a projection of how humanity sees the world
If I ever get Palworld, I refuse to play it the way it's raved about.
Not sure if I understood that correctly, but I do hope that we get at least a note if you figure out that some creators did something like creating two uncomplete games or whatever bad thing can happen. I also heard there are two teams, but honestly with my best try I'm not sure what I would figure out or overlook.

As much as I love Pokemon I am more than happy to see more entries into the genre doing their own takes of the formula. Cassette Beasts last year, Palworld in early access this year, and a new Dragon Quest Monsters game finally.

It seemed a meme game made for lols, but turns out Palworld is actually a good game with uninspiring graphical design from a small studio. Just like idk… PUBG, Tarkov, and many other breakthrough hits. The measure of their merit would be how they support the playerbase after early acess release.
I had no idea there was so much Palworld drama. lol. I'm enjoying the game so far. It's kicking my butt pretty hard but it's definitely well made.

I've been saying it elsewhere, but to compare Palworld against Pokemon to the extent people have is a disservice to both games. They're ultimately different takes on the genre. (Though I agree some of the Pal designs push it…)
To be frank, I can't believe it took this long for a game like Palworld to come out. From pet classes in MMOs, to Pokemon mods in Minecraft, people have been all but begging for a game like this for years. I've even caved on an Xbox for this game, coming off DW: Next Order.
On the flipside, I've yet to see any battle system even approach Pokemon's depth and complexity, which is criminally underutilized in the main story of the games. You only need to glance at the competitive scene, both official (VGC) and unofficial (Smogon).
And that's why Pokemon can't be Palworld and vice versa. Its like comparing a slice-of-life anime to a battle shonen. I see people wishing Pokemon was like Palworld, and while I want GameFreak to get a kick in the pants as much as anyone else, many of these comparisons kinda miss the point. There's more than enough room for both games.
Really glad you're standing your ground. Palworld has more similarities to Ark than pokemon. Yes it has creatures and you can catch them. But you can do the same thing in Ark. Calling it a pokemon clone is out of proportion when 90% of the game plays like similar crafting survival games. Gather resources, food, build a base, unlock tech tree, explore map, tame creatures to build your workforce and automation.
I think getting compared to pokemon gave the game lots of attention and probably helped with sales. But the game plays more like a crafting survival sandbox than like a pokemon game.

I likely wouldn't have tried Palworld without your coverage so I thank you as it's a really fun game, yes the designs aren't the most original but gamefreak has literally been releasing recolours of older mons for the past 3 or 4 gens now so I think that criticism is unfair and unwarranted. The battle system is pretty unique and challenging and absolutely blows Scarlet and Violet out of the water in that regard and the environments are gorgeous in comparison. Overall it just sounds to me like Nintendo are scared that they might actually have to put some effort into their next game and are likely paying their influencers to make a rain on PalWorld's parade.

Honestly, I don't think Dragon Quest Monsters 3 is being brought into this discussion despite that. Which is really sad.
Meanwhile, it looks like SONY fans are getting more upset at this, of all things. As I said elsewhere, I doubt this is actually going to russle Nintendo & Gamefreak's jimmies, but there sure are plenty of AAA developers that have reason to feel threatened by this.
I think the only real valid criticism (apart from people who genuinely just don't like the game itself) is the small handful of pal designs that are extremely similar to certain pokemon. But even that is way overblown with a lot of people trying to criticize pals that are even remotely similar to any pokemon instead of focusing on just the few real problematic ones.
Man.. palworld looked so janky in your previews, but wow, what a gamechanger.. it feels like this is the first AI game im playing and if this is anything to go by.. we are in for a wild ride in the coming years! Here's hoping pokemon steps it up and other creators see the success of palworld and take a swing at the genre as well

This game is fantastic. The fact that things are similar to other games is why I like it. It's the best of a lot of games. I don't care if AI was involved. The game just needs more content in game.
I don't like the argument of its creatures are to similar to pokemon so boycott it. Pokemon doesn't own the art style for the pokemon. The argument of pals being to similar to pokemon is also an argument that is not convincing as when using the same art style you can only do so much new things but still make it feel the same, pokemon proves this themselves as in every generation there is a Pikachu clone with glaring similarities, there is a bird looking starter bird, a pokemon style mammal normal type. Starters go from the cute one, the cool one, and the one inbetween. I honestly believe these two arguments are just pokemon fans being petty. Palworld is not a copy of pokemon its a parody, the most it takes from pokemon is the catch system, design similarity, and power gimmicks for pals, its more survival than pokemon.

Ed, I wouldn't have known Palworld if it wasn't because of you. As a (former) Pokemon player from Blue, I really welcome Palworld to fill in the vacuum after Pokemon stagnated and simply became a cash grab.

Personally not really a fan of Palworld myself so I’m not going to play it ( if you like it that’s cool too) I just question is does it have legs? Plenty of things get a burst of popularity at the beginning but fall of pretty quickly and considering the not insubstantial amount of people freely admitting they only care because they think it hurts game freak, I worry that it might burn itself out. All that said I honestly can’t see this moving the needle at Game Freak either, why would they be threatened by a game people confirm is essentially ark but with monsters, the games play completely differently. To finalise keep up the good work Ed, been a blast watching the channel grow, I still remember the days before you had the nifty sprites at the start of the videos.
I hope pokemon learns from this and actually step up and make a innovative game for once 😂
It's such a shame that people accuse you of jumping on a bandwagon when they are the ones who didn't even know this game existed until a few days ago, not to mention that I don't think that many people care about the ethics and just want to bask in drama, but I won't be a hypocrite and make assumptions about people I don't know so I will leave it there. But hopefully this will be a net positive as more people get exposed to your channel and other games in the genre.
