Im a GS main. But MAN, Rapid Fire Sticky is fun. I hope its a thing in Wilds
Well I usually play DB as I like the dodging around the monster but I think for wilds I'll learn CB, sa and pb LS with DB as a backup
For now, it will be charge blade and bow as my 2 main weapons, but I will need to play more glaive to really get a feel for it and see if I can enjoy it as much as I did in world.
Looking forward to play LANCE & Hunting Horn for the first time! in Iceborn i played LBG and in Sunbreak SNS & LBG – so pretty excited about the new weapon types!
Bonk
I'm actually happy two of my four mains are the least popular (Hunting Horn and Lance). I love knowing that there are far less people using a weapon I main. There's a emotion of being special when no one else is copying your play style. I won't lie 😅.
I remember participating in hunts where there were multiple people using the same weapons. Though out of my thousand hours of MHW gameplay, I've only joined one hunt where a second person was using a Hunting Horn. Talk about being rare 😄
I am normally a switch axe main but I was really surprised by how much I was liking the new hammer.
As an IG player I felt like they gave us more damage but took away the fun. I.e. the improvements that came with Wilds are either not that impactful or came with nerfs.
Points I am making:
– They made it easier to get essence, but you need all the buffs to unlock the full move set.
– They gave us additional ways to get into the air, but they don't let us stay in the air.
– They show what essence we can collect, but after gathering each buff once I know where they are anyways.
And I don't know if it's just me but I had two other issues:
– I think the new control scheme is a bit awkward on controller.
– I felt like the Kinsect had a mind of its own at times. I know it's the starter bug but sometimes I felt like it didn't go where I sent it to.
SnS is AMAZING in Wilds. But i think many of the othet weapons need better balance or complete changes.
It's a classic result for the S&S on a popularity poll. It's always such a strong weapon, that is always overlooked and/or underrated. I'll always love how versatile it is, and now it's got such a powerful defensive tech in the perfect block, and even more unrelenting ways to keep offence going no matter what. S&S will always be my favourite. Perfect for beginners, and perfectly effective for veterans
I dont mind the insect glaive moveset, its fine enough, tho its feeling a bit slow. My main issue is making it a charge weapon in a sense and connecting the descending aerial move with a charge like wha? The controls feel so bad. I would like a bounce in aerial but thats a small complaint. The main complaint is the lack of earplugs and locking the complete moveset behind three extracts. Even if its kinda easier to get extracts, its just such a downgrade.
Ive been a lance main every game before. And ironically im swapping to heavy bowgun for wilds. Lance just felt off, and hbg felt so tanky and satisfying.
SEAD chargeblade is dead
Objectively speaking the Gunlance is obviously the best weapon in solo play. Only weapon that has both S- tier defensive and offensive capabilities.
Bow users take more melee damage from monsters so it doesn't qualify for best solo weapon.
Gunlance can also front load it's damage with the wyvernfire charges, which is very useful when you are hunting alone and actually have to tank the monsters yourself.
Combine all that with the fact that shelling ignores damage resistances and no longer costs sharpness, there is no contest. Gunlance is POG.
I feel like every weapon got improved, but i must say that hammer got the short stick out of the general improvement. Not many new moves, not new ways of using charge. It might end up boring pretty fast
Early on I had already theorycrafted some dual-weapon loadouts, but having watched my playstyle in the beta I‘m actually considering just using two of any weapon, eg DB with one element and one status rep. xD
I love the changes to the insect Glaive.
Making the Kinsect more of a core focus of the weapon is a long time coming.
Getting triple extract is the fastest and easiest of any iteration.
Being able to charge your Kinsect means easy extract harvesting as it pierces the monster. You can do cheesy things like firing it through a green extract part for a giant heal.
Being able ot KNOCK OUT monsters with a blunt Kinsect while it attacks alongside you in Focus Mode. No, seriously things like the Sidestep combo make it really obvious your Kinsect is doing serious work.
As mentioned in the video the Insect Glaive is FINALLY powerful, it finally got its flowers.
Being able to charge your super-strong Rising Spiral Slash pretty much at any time is crazy.
The focus strike being RANGED in mid-air is so damn nuts.
IG is finally king of mounting after being second fiddle to Hammer and GS, and being able to easily mount and wound monsters is such a damn boon.
Minimizing Insect Glaive's air time has been a huge benefit for the weapon. It massively increased its DPS, reduced its mid-air vulnerability (since you're not up there flopping around), and the weapon still has the best mobility in the game. Seeing people styling on Rey Dau with an eventual 5:00 hunt was impressive. IG is finally strong and I can't wait for February 28th man.
My other fav from previous games, Hunting Horn, got a beautiful glowup as well. The echo bubbles, being able to bank an offset, the animaitons for things like the bubbles, focus strike, etc… having so much character? Keep cooking, Capcom.
I've been a charge blade / LBG main since the introduction of charge blade in the series, and Wilds has me really pumped for the fresh feeling these two weapons have. Plus i get to carry both ! 11/10
IG maining. I tried SnS and really like it. Might use that as a secondary
I've mained IG since it's debut in 4U, and have thousands of hours total put into it. While the other 13 weapons kept most of their core and had new utility added, the IG lost a lot of core and got 2 animation attacks that require little skill to pull off. We lost our bread and butter red extract attacks. Even with all 3 extracts, its still slow and clunky. The weapon lost quite a bit of range, requiring your hunter to be almost on top of the monster to land hits. Dodges feel slower, with basic attacks taking longer. Aerial attacks are a joke now. The new rising spiral slash puts you into the air for no reason at all, its more optimal to just land and start getting extracts again. The charged kinsect would be cool if it didnt send your kinsect to the moon. Dont even get me started on the control scheme. In essence, my main weapon was utterly shat on by Capcom and im angry bout it.
As a Glaive main, I want an ability that at least give you one "bounce in the air" after hitting the monster, I miss the aerial control
i did not get on the poll, and i am still undetermined since i did not get too play much during this beta, so i hope there will come another before release 😀
But the weapons i am looking too test some more are Lance and HBG, i think they might fit real well with guard and guard up decorations, i also wanna test some more SNS, GS and bow though XD
i might stick to LBG like i did with world.
I think while hammer doesn’t feel like it got a huge damage boost, it flows better and, this is the biggest change, seems to have more KO power. The first two KOs happen ridiculously quickly and I was pretty consistently getting 4-5 KOs on Rey Dau and then squeezing in 6 in one or two hints. That feels like a lot to me, especially after not having a KO buffing skill on. But that’s good. Hammer feels like a KO specialist once again.
As my main weapon the Greatsword felt insane to use,the Focus mode aiming for the TCS is incredible.
The only thing I felt they need to work on is the feeling of impact on hits, but I believe that's true for all the weapons in the Beta.
It's not just that insect glaive is a different weapon but an entirely different playstyle. It's now a build resource, do big move, build resource loop, which is decidedly different from the two common ways to play glaive historically. There's nothing inherently wrong with the playstyle, but many people liked that the glaive wasn't that kind of weapon. Now, it feels more like a one-trick pony that's fun at first but gets old really quickly.
I liked Rise CB where we could easily choose axe/savage axe/SAED spam axe or SnS/SAED and were free to switch forms whenever. So far, (and this is likely a skill issue) having to hit the guard points to switch to axe mode is extremely limiting. But I only put maybe a few hours into it, so I will reserve judgement for when I have time to become proficient with the weapon in this form. Initial impression though, the guard point requirement is a serious hinderance to playing the weapon.
Why didn't I try hunting horn in the beta when I had the chance 😭
GO BOW!!!! ❤❤❤
I only tried 3 weapons, hammer, SNS and GS, and i'm in love with Hammer ngl
But since it was a beta and i have THE recommended specs, it didn't run to to well.
I'm the guy who thinks IG is the best it's ever been, so, if you see an IG in your hunts, hi, it's probably me, cuz apparently no one else will be playing it 😛
IG & HBG been my mains forever Wilds won't change this.
Gunlance is feeling so freaking good. Looking forward to maining it this time around!
I'm really torn. GL is one of my long term main and is better than ever, but CB feels so damn good now.
Hammer & Dual Blades
insect glaive being under hunting horn, oof thats rough
As a lance main I’m excited to get more time with the new lance. My only real gripe with it was that the double thrust counter felt pretty inaccessible for how fun and rewarding it is to use.
Also excited to find out in the full release if the double thrust counter requires guard up or not to land on unblockable attacks. Would be fun to have a built-in way to counter unblockables without having to waste a skill slot just like every other countering weapon can.
Bow has been my go-to in every MH game it has been in, and it always disappoints me when they leave it out in an entry.
In my opinion the IG changes are great for the weapon, at least, for people who have never played it before. The dps is good and it looks awesome pulling off the charge combo. But for people that have been played IG before, the changes make the weapon feel so different that it’s not the IG anymore.
As someone that plays on a controller IG is near impossible to play properly, and to do so can genuinely be uncomfortable or, at least for me, painful. This is not just sad to see my favourite weapon being unplayable, but it’s killing my excitement for the game.
Also, can we move away from this argument of people not liking the changes to IG vs people saying serves IG right for abusing mechanics? It’s genuine criticism of how the weapon has lost its most appealing identity.
I'll be running Gunlance and CB, definitevely my most favourite weapons. Before wilds it was GL and SwitchAxe, but the effects and combos on CB in wilds is just too good
With perfect rush beeing kinda obsolete now (unless they give it a really high elemental scaling which i hope) it's no wonder to me that the SnS was not really popular.
I'm probably going to Main Switch Axe, Longsword and Greatsword. But i also really liked Dual blades, hammer and hunting horn. Gunlance seems very fun too.
I really dont like the changes to the Chargeblade. I miss my SAED Spam. I was never a fan of the savage axe mode so yeah, not gonna use that weapon anymore in Wilds unfortunately.
Think ill main Sword and Shield this go. It feels so good this time around
Weak spot undershowing on GS!? Really. Wven know it just drags across thier body? Heck that's why I'm gonna start on gs when game comes out.
