Bill, why the hard on for failing crypto exchanges? If you don't like crypto, don't invest, but to actively cheer on regular people losing small fortunes is pretty awful of you. These are average people trying to take back a little power from the giant banks that are "too big to fail". Seriously, the big banks can actively have policies that are not just risky, but actually guaranteed to fail, doom the economy, and steal untold amounts of cash and then get bailed out, but crypto is the thing that needs to fail in your eyes? You need to rethink your position.

Andrew Sullivan sounded like he's never been in a school for the past decade or two. The vast majority of schools don't have an issue with pronouns at any level from elementary to high school. Kids, in general, are far more accepting now than they were 20-30 years ago. They figure a lot of that out on their own. It's akin to "sex education" when I was in school. It's a class but nothing is really addressed.
The larger issue, as Bill alluded to, is the parents. Teachers, by and large, are lazy and not particularly bright. They don't want to deal with whiny parents and they aren't given the latitude to discipline kids that get out of line on the regular in their classes. Their hands are, mostly, tied. Generally, if a student gets in trouble, parents now assume it's a problem with the teacher not with their "precious" child. Guess what? Your kid was probably being an asshole because they didn't get proper discipline at home. And, because you didn't parent your kids properly, their teachers don't want to deal with your kids or you as feckless parents. Also, most "teaching" now is via YouTube because it's easy and kids like it. Add all of that together and you get kids who are underserved educationally and they also lack structure because teachers don't get paid enough (in most places) to become de facto parents. Parents and teachers used to work together. In recent years, it's the parents that have teamed up with the kids against the teachers and against anyone that doesn't find their kids exceptional. Possibly because colleges are inordinately expensive and kids need to have exceptional grades and records to get extra money. It's still the most reliable path to a better future. So, most grades are inflated which is why you see the backlash on state tests. It exposes the kids as not particularly well educated and the teachers as not effective at their jobs. The larger problem being, most kids are average. That's the very definition of of the word. One way or the other, the world is going to teach them that. Unless, of course, they become teachers and are, as such, revered for no real reason. And, a lot of those very average kids have now become entitled teachers. Vicious cycle. A great teacher is invaluable and, as has always been the case, exceedingly rare. Unfortunately, the ratio of great:good:terrible teachers has been vastly skewed toward the inept. Until we decide to make teaching a more attractive profession highly skilled and qualified people, we'll continue to reap what we've sown.
