Models show how new ToonTown is made better + Tiana's model | Disneyland construction 09/15/2022

There were a few models on display in the Dreams Pavillion at D23 this year. We had a chance to take a close look at them, and I’ve come away very impressed with how they were able to make new ToonTown significantly better than old ToonTown. We’ll also take a look at the model for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, where we make a couple interesting observations as well.

  1. In toontown, the fishing pole is a prop and has a piece of meat at the end of it as a gag.

As far as why the boat/tree design was scrapped, it's because it didn't go with the story. Rather than have Mama Ode sing you over the drop in her boat treehouse, they are having Dr. Facilier/the spirits sing you over. You can see the viles of poison etc. at the top of the drop.

  2. If anyone owns Left 4 Dead some guy made a beautiful campaign. Its called Journey to Splash Mountain. It is very interactive. So many easter eggs. David if you haven't seen it or played; its a must play. It even puts you into the rides. For instance, you have to take a flume down splash mountain. You have to go through the Haunted Mansion with the stretching room and then past the omnimovers. You go through the queues of Indiana Jones. The tiki room has all of the music and the animatronic birds dancing/singing.

  3. I hope we can still access the upper level of Donald's boat from the back. It's a nice place to stop and people watch from above for a bit as well as play around with the sound buttons and the steering wheel. I don't mind not having access to the lower level; it wasn't much fun anyway.

  5. Great up close updates David! Really loving the Toowntown update and all the natural play areas and better layout of things. Definitely wishing for nice and iconic lighting effects at night there. As for Tiana's, I'm taking a wait and see approach until we know more of the inside and such.

  6. it´s so funny that you are still thinking about the "LIGHTING EFFECT" in the original concept art… that's just rendering magic, something artist do to elevate a bland or flat image… to add some movement and dynamism, just like leaves floating or magic hour sun ligth, mist, sparkling dots, lens flare, etc.

  7. Thanks for the great layout of the new Toon Town! I saw the display too but went by it to fast. But I did notice when I looked at it I was trying to find the Roger Rabbit ride. Do you know if they are getting rid of the ride? That would be a bummer if they are. Good video!

  8. I live in Louisiana less than an hour from New Orleans, I commute there everyday for work and I can say I’ve never seen anything remotely close to a mountain here, and while there are salt mines in our state they’re not necessarily close to New Orleans nor do they look like that. 😹 That being said, I do appreciate them “trying” to work with what they have. Honestly, though they should just cover it in cypress trees (real or fake) and make that red clay look like mud or swamp grass. It’s not like there is much to the swamps here, the trees grow tall enough that it would be slightly more believable and they’re everywhere! (At least in my area)😹

  9. THEY TOOK OUT CHIP AND DALES TREEHOUSE??!! 😭💔 👎🏻 It’s sad that the only thing they have now is gadgets coaster. Hopefully they still do meet and greets somewhere. Thank you for the great video!

  10. Thank you for the updates, as usual David, stupendous job! Personally, I do not think that Splash Mountain should be changed, it is perfect the way it is, and from the mock up it looks like Disney is doing the bare minimum, so I have to ask do they really have a fully formed vision for this? I do not think they do. Also, Tiana owning a salt mine? Where did they dig that up? The whole plot of her story was to open a restaurant. Disney, leave Splash Mountain the way it is and open Tiana’s Place restaurant. That would be a better use of resources and would represent the character and her story more.
