I will say some developers that actually care about the community is combat waffle studios with there newish game ghost of tabor those guys love the community and every month we have a chance to talk to them face to face about how to improve their game they are amazing

i completely agree with almost all of this, point to any classic Zombies map and take a random image of it and you will know where that is and what map that is, show me a photo of MWZ and i couldnt tell you the game. And i have gotten to the point where i am making a Zombies Game, unfortunately i only know Lua so im making it on Roblox but still, i hope my maps can possess the same soul as the early to mid zombies maps and i think that the if Activision doesnt pull itself together the community will be all Zombies has left.

I think tethering something to Fortnite regardless of benefits in the long run may not work. The things made with Fortnite are only going to be around as long as Fortnite is kept running, I think if Epic decided to pull support one day, things like player-made games would not work. Go look at the success of Lethal Company, with anywhere from 5.6 to over 12 million copies. At the end of the day, Godot, Unreal and Unity (if you wanted to still use Unity), Roblox probably has some example(s) but Roblox has sus people at their company, Gamemaker, anything you can make a game with and put enough effort into after a while (keep in mind the first thing you make will not be perfect).
I can imagine someone can make a standalone wave-based Zombie shooter experience akin to what Call of Duty can do and the only reason nobody has is because Treyarch does it so well that people just do the stuff they want to do on custom zombies.

Lex, if you haven't heard of a game called Killing Floor (1 and 2), I highly recommend checking that game out! It's not exactly a round based zombies game, but it definitely has elements of it. KIlling Floor 3 got announced recently and is maybe coming out at the end of 2024 (I don't think a release date or even window is official). I also haven't played too much of it, so I can't really say much about it, but from what I have played, it's REALLY good!
Let's hope CoD 2024 can pull through. Treyarch is extremely talented with creating things with little time, but with all the time they've had to make this next game, I am hopeful for it 😅
