  2. Always slaying nonstop slaying on this channel. I love burning hill but also if you liked loving feeling I think your gonna love bury me at make out creek, to me loving feeling feels like it’s from that album in a lot of ways. It’s probably my favorite mitski album. Super excited for you to listen to it eventually!

  3. My favourites are A Burning Hill, I Bet on Losing Dogs and Fireworks. Really looking forward to your reaction of Bury me at Makeout Creek it's probably my favourite of her albums because I connect to the lyrics the most and it has a lot of guitar driven songs. Love every song on BmaMC but I Will and Last words of a shooting star are just mind-blowingly beautiful!

  4. If you’re reacting to her non album tracks, I would suggest Cop Car, a track she released for The Turning movie soundtrack but had written way back in 2014 (or even earlier?); and also her cover of Glide by Lily Chou-Chou that she released recently for the movie After Yang.

As for my top 3 for this album, I’d say
    -I Bet On Losing Dogs
    -Crack Baby
    -Once More to See You
Though there’s a bunch there that are right on the edge, this is a really solid album. I think this and Be The Cowboy are tied for my #1, it’s hard to choose since they’re so different.

  6. For more non-album tracks, she did a collaboration with a graphic novel to make three songs – two of them are just sort of cool instrumental pieces but one of them is a great little song called The Baddyman, which answers the question 'what would it sound like if Mitski did country' – might be a fun one to react to!

  8. to me the forest fires lines mean more of you're destroying yourself, you KNOW you're destroying yourself but yet all you do is stand there, watching, not doing anything.

  9. My favourites really change depending on my mood, and as time passes I identify with other Mitski songs more.

A Burning Hill may be the song that sticks with me the most…I, too, love Mitski's use of language and metaphor, and this song to me perfectly evokes more than nearly any song I've heard, the experience of depression where just putting on a nice clean button-down can feel like a huge accomplishment. She may be a self-destructive mess, and she may be depressed, but she can at least look (and be) clean.
Until you mentioned it, it did not even occur to me that the "you" in this song referred to a person/relationship. I interpreted "you" as a relationship with herself/her emotions/her life. I often interpret the "you" in her songs not as a person but as a relationship with herself. Although ofc this could be a reflection of my own experience/bias.

  10. OK SO NOW….. IF YOU ARE A SUCKER FOR POETRY AND LYRICS, PLS PLS PLS LISTEN TO LANA DEL REY. She always says she is a poet first, and music is secondhand. She is an amazing lyricist. Also videos are pure art, the monologue on the RIDE music video will make you speechless. I know i comment this on every video, but you would dig lana SO HARD i can feel it in my bones. great video, loving the mitski series.

  11. I think you would really, really enjoy Japanese Breakfast – the lead, Michelle Zauner, is also half-Asian (Korean mother), actually toured as Mitski’s opening act a while ago, and has three amazing indie rock/pop albums. A lot of her work addresses grief, as she took a hiatus in her mid-20s from her former band, Little Big League (before Japanese Breakfast) to act as a caretaker to her mother as she passed from terminal cancer. Her newest album (Grammy-nominated), Jubilee, addresses the topic of joy and moving on from her stages of grief – it’s incredible. She is also a NY Times bestseller, having written the memoir “Crying in H Mart” about her relationship with her mother, the caretaking process, and how she has been able to reconcile her grief and her memories by learning how to cook Korean food. It’s been on the bestseller list for 40+ weeks! HIGHLY recommend.

  12. If you like the imagery and poetry that mitski brings in this song, I recommend Daughter if you haven't reviewed them before! Elena Tonra leads with mesmerizing vocals that I haven't heard most anywhere else and her poeticism, imo, is beautiful. They're an indie alt folk band, and if you want to begin with them, I'd suggest starting with their If You Leave album! Much love 💖!
