  1. Horrible take by CR to want profanity in the movie. That's one thing that makes this film so good. Those of us who don't talk like that don't want to hear it either. Profanity would absolutely ruin this masterpiece.

  2. As great as the speech Brooks gave to the team prior to the Soviet game, the speech he gave at intermission against Finland may have been even better. Would have loved to see it in the movie but, then again, it wouldn't be a Disney movie, or the first R-rated Disney feature.

  3. Again. Again. Again. Again. Props to whoever did the goalie sequences. The style of goaltending back then was ridiculous, Craig ended up on has back like every save. They captured that perfectly in the film.

  4. 57:27 It was from before my time, but I remember reading this Mike Eruzione quote regarding backup goalie Vladimir Myshkin: "MIKE ERUZIONE: It didn’t matter to us. And I’ve said this over the years. Tretiak let in two goals in the first period. Myshkin let in two in two periods. Myshkin was the goalie when the Soviets beat the NHL All-Stars by a score of 6-0, Myshkin was the goalie.

It’s like taking Patrick Roy out and putting in Martin Brodeur."

Not saying it was a great move by Viktor Tikhonov, but maybe it's underselling Myshkin as a Chad Henne level goalie. Also an unrelated Tikhonov anecdote that I didn't know until recent years (which might have cost Russia a gold medal in 1998): In 1992, the de facto Soviet club was on its way to another gold medal. Coaches don't receive medals and Tikhonov maybe figured he deserved one after years of service and/or knew his time with the national team was coming to an end. So he took a gold medal from Nikolai Khabibulin who was the de facto Christian Laettner youngster on the team.

Fast forward to 1998 and Khabibulin was still annoyed about it and declined to play for Russia since most of the old guard was still in charge. The Dominik Hasek led Czech squad upset the Russians in the gold medal game and they started NHL journeyman Mikhail Shtalenkov in Khabibulin's absence. But I suppose the Russians were shut out, so a different goalie might not have been a definitive turning point. The IOC would award Khabibulin a replacement gold medal in 2002 where he was coaxed back to the national team since Slava Fetisov was now heading the program.
