Mink DeVille’s encore at Rockpalast in 1978, “Shadows In The Night,” shows off everyone’s talents for over 12 minutes. As the band retakes the stage, Willy gently admonishes someone in the audience for mispronouncing his name. Then he tries to think of other names …
“I mean there ain’t no … uh, what’s another one? Well, there’s no ‘Walerie’; it’s ‘Valerie,’ right? Doesn’t matter anyway.”
And it really doesn’t matter; the crowd’s there to party. The Mink DeVille Band’s showing them how.
Willy goes in search of a slide; tells the band, “Start it up.”
And the band starts the song, and life is very good indeed.
Willy adds, “Ah, this is strictly off the record,” which I like to think was an intentional pun.
Starting at 9:40, watch Willy work the crowd, with more of his James Brown routine. He’d started his James Brown vibe during the prior song, “Just You And Me, Darling.” The towel around his neck is a nice touch in both songs.
“Shadows In The Night” ends, and the audience keeps on applauding and cheering, showing their appreciation. It’s pretty great.

Very nice! It’s fun to see a Willy video that’s unfamiliar. Thanks
