Mike and Jay are back for another Mike and Jay Talk About video where Mike and Jay talk about the movie Dinner in America, a punk rock coming of age suburbia dystopian love story. This is an addendum to our Half in the Bag Kyle Gallner triple feature extravaganza!

  1. Fun movie but man he just turns her into a POS drug dealer scumbag
She was a sweetheart and after him she becomes one of those sociopathic hipster douche bags you see at shows that actually deserve beatings. People like these characters are actually awful in real life. They actually wanted me to identify with these characters as opposed to just wanting me to enjoy how pathetic they are.

  2. Absolutely love the "Talk About"s, they put me onto some awesome gems like The Kid Detective, Cobweb, and now this. This is the only way I'll hear about stuff like this. Even if they get 4% of the views of a typical minecraft youtuber please keep doing these.

  3. Partway through this convinced me to go watch it. Took me a little while to get into it, but by the end I was super on board. For as cynical and crass as it starts out, it becomes really heartfelt, and there was really good chemistry between the leads.

  4. Patty isn't "special" as Mike suggests. She is simply so genuinely weird in such an organic way as to be detached from the rest of society. The actions and reactions of ordinary people striking as amusing at best and baffling at worst.

  5. My father-in-law used to clean porta potties and told me how he would find whole multivitamins inside them. I now chew all my vitamins. Those count as pills? Sure it tastes bad, but I grew a pair.

  6. Had to think a little on the Nerd Crew joke..
In principle, yes, your studio has a big collection going, BUT… it's of actually singular, one-of-a-kind things, like single-use props from shows.

  7. I saw this about a year and a half ago, and I loved it. I've spent that time trying to convince my friends to watch it, but they've been reluctant for some reason. I'm glad you're showing it the love it deserves.

Your thoughts are my thoughts upon first seeing it: It's one of those indie comedies that used to be everywhere in the 90s but nobody makes anymore.

I loved every stupid second of this movie.

  8. Thanks, RLM, for talking about this movie and peaking my interest. Went and watched it, and it is awesome. Loving Kyle Gallner… also watched The Passanger and love that, too… going on my own Kyle Gallner rabbit hole

  9. Dude. This movie was so fucking good. Easily the best movie I've seen in years.
I didn't pick up on her being "special" in that sense. I picked up on her being extremely sheltered and remarkably naive. I get where you guys are coming from, but, don't see THAT aspect. Yes, I know, the bullies on the bus at the end, etc. But that was bullies bullying a shy, quiet, naive girl. They tend to use derogatory words.
It's possible I missed something though. I got rather drunk on my first watch. Had to rewatch the last 20 minutes sober lol.
