I am from Latin America. Do not let anyone make you feel that if you're against this free flow of migrants you're racist or xenophobic. You have a right as citizens to protect your borders and national security. At the very least you should require people to prove that they don't have a criminal history in other countries, that they are healthy, and able to immediately work in the areas of the economy that your country needs (so not the single mothers with multiple children who plan to live off your taxes). The US needs hard working immigrants in many sectors like farming, elderly care, nursing, etc. This is a country built on hard working immigrant values. Now let me share what has been happening in Latin America. In the past few years, we had a wave of these Venezuelan "refugees" in Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Bolivia. We took them in just like the US, gave them covid government aid $$, food, people gave them jobs and rented their houses to them, only to be paid back with crime. Latin America is now rife with Venezuelan criminal gangs. Culturally they are not a good fit, they feel entitled to everything because they have lived from the government generations upon generations (Chavez, Maduro, etc). Watch any news channel from Latin America, nobody wants them in their country, now we cant get rid of them, they are so emboldened they beat up our own police and whenever our military forces fight back they and their shameless Venezuelan diplomats are quick to cry human rights abuse. These people are a plague. Do not let them repeat this story in your country. Once the free food and housing run out, you will see their true colors. That incident of the Venezuelan migrant who started a fire in a Mexican detention center because he was going to be deported, killing other migraints should be a precursor of what's to come if you don't do anything to stop this. You have to pas some form of regulation to make sure you are letting in the right people to keep your country safe and prosperous.

Legislation (S.343-A/A.3412-A) Applies the Legal Standard of Extortion or Coercion to a Person Threatening to Report Another Person's Immigration Status
Governor Kathy Hochul today signed legislation (S.343-A/A.3412-A) classifying certain threats to report a person's immigration status as extortion or coercion under New York law. Threats to report a person's immigration status can currently be treated as a crime in cases of labor trafficking and sex trafficking, but were not previously treated as potential extortion or coercion offenses.
