Midsumer Scream: Behind the Scenes of the Biggest Halloween convention!

Halloween in July! MIDSUMMER SCREAM Returns! The world’s largest Halloween and Horror convention is backing full force at the Long Beach Convention Center! All things spooky and haunt-centric come to gather here by the ocean to show off all their amazing haunt equipment, makeup, special effects, props, maze designs, major theme park announcements, panels, cosplay, and more! This is an epic convention not geared toward movies or comics, but toward Halloween haunts! Come enjoy the spooky atmosphere of MIDSUMMER SCREAM! Last year was over the top with a Halloween Museum, the original Monster Kids, a GIANT life sized AHI Frankenstein, and so much more… THIS year is even more full with the Winchester Mystery house, Dungeons and Dragons theme, Hall of Shadows Hauntbuster … (Haunted Blockbuster!) The Twilight Zone, and more! This video like always is as family friendly as possible, but remember at a Halloween Convention you’re going to have some blood and gore and of course, the last half of this video has strobe lights in it, since it’s a “Dark room” haunt area!

  1. I LOVE IT!! I love when you do the midsummer scream vids, and all the other halloween/haunted stuff, I'm too much of a fraidy cat to go to them myself so I live vicariously through you!

  2. Hey Justin I hope you're doing well. I heard about Paul's passing yesterday and immediately thought of you. I hope it's not too hard on you because I know he's such a big inspiration. Amazing video as always!

  3. That event seems to get better every year and you did a great job on your exhibit booth. Your monster needs to have his arms up so it looks like he's breaking down the wall. Also, I was wondering how Bob is doing and great to see him there. Thanks for another great video and I'm looking forward to your next ones as we start getting closer to Halloween and the Holiday season.

  4. Wait, when did fake Tyler become just Tyler? Wow! Congratulate him! He’s a REAL boy! 😉 And Chris is indeed a handsome fella, good on ya Chris.

But, man, I was bummed to see that this event was happening again RIGHT AFTER I was scheduled to move states! Guess this year I’ll be more dependent than ever on you and Adam and Jacob and others to show me all the great haunts that, every other year, I was too scared to visit anyway.

But you’d be proud… we crossed from Fullerton all the way to east Texas over three days along I-40, sporting a spooky ghost Justin sticker on the bumper, and managed to squeeze in some long-anticipated Route 66 tourism. We got to a museum in Arizona, along with the Jackrabbit Trading Post and a quick fun pic at the Canyon Diablo Bridge.

We also added 30 minutes drive time just to see the Burma Shave signs between Peach Springs and Seligman. It was a little uncertain, though, because the first signs we saw were partially broken and we thought we’d come too late… turns out the newer ones are red! The first ones were purple and had only two left so it read, “Violets are blue who drink and drive.” Then we saw the real deal, three full sets, and it was worth the drive.

We also stayed in two Route 66 motels, Motel du Beau in Flagstaff and the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari. The first had no air conditioning in a heatwave! But it’s cute and friendly. The second had 100% refrigerated air! But we were so shellshocked after passing through a brutal but tiny storm that we barely appreciated it. I was sure there was a twister forming… though the owner said they don’t get tornadoes. I think that man’s a liar. It was nice of him though.

I admit, after that our group was all touristed out and just wanted to make it to our new house. But lucky us… a Meow Wolf has just opened in town…

Your booth looks super cool and fun. I only wish I could have seen it in person.

  5. That K'nex track that carries your phone through one of those Carnival Dark Rides is absolutely genius! And the fact that you pick up your phone at the gift shop is like, GENIUS GENIUS
