  1. Read that book a few years ago – superb. Jagger's ability & the Stones compared to Zeppelin is laughable. McCartney had it right , the Stones are a pub band.
They couldn't hold a candle to Zeppelin & nor could The Who.

  2. And I'm sure there's more, oh yeah, and Robert Plant said he hates the Ukalale, how can a professional musician hate a musical instrument. I guess he doesn't even know that all notes played on any musical instrument sounds the same if you don't hear the attack…Fact. and besides that it's the player not the instrument. There are Ukalale players that would blow him off the stage !!

  3. The scene in Get Back where Glyn tries to warn John about Allen Klein is so powerful, Glyn wasn't very forceful about offering his opinion, but he offered it all the same. It's ominous listening to Lennon brush him off.

  4. They just didn't get it. I often have to hear songs numerous times before I start to live them.

I imagine we would know If they didn't see the genius of Led Zeppelin later.

There could have been jealousy involved but I hope not because I think both Mick and George had good enough character to overcome their human tendencies.

  5. In hindsight aren't all those guys overated though? Especially the rolling bones and the beatles. Chuck Berry and Little Richard and Jimi hendrix were the holy trinity of ROCK and FUNKIN ROLL.

  6. I think it is understandable that Mick wasn't impressed bij LZ.
The Stones made a whole other kind of music ; more rootsy , more song-alike and you feel something when Keith playes guitar . LZ was more R&R or even Hard rock . Jimmy Page is a very good guitar player with more technique in his playing at that time but he could't give you that feeling what Keith did when he played his riffs and strumming his chords with open tunings.
And indeed , maybee it was also the voice of Roger Plant which could be sometimes annoying.
When you make a sort of music you do that because that is your thing , and not something else.
As an outstander I think LZ is one of the best bands in their kind of music .
John Bonham and Jimmy Page………wow !!
And the Stones , they are legends …………..

  7. Apparently George Harrison suggested to Jimmy Page one time that Zep should have a ballad, and that sparked the inspiration for The Rain Song. So knowing they spoke, maybe it's possible George came round to them, but who knows? Weird that they disliked Zep. Other members of the Stones did as well, and also Pete Townsend of the Who. I might have to call it jealousy.

  8. I remember Whole Lotta Love being "accidentally" released by Atlantic, though not met with approval from Peter Grant. I was only 12 at the time and FM radio was just becoming a thing here in the Midwest. It blew me away. It was loud, raw, sexy, and dangerous. From that day I became a lifetime Zeppelin fan.

  9. The thing Keith Richards needs to understand is not everyone wants to write 3 minute catchy pop tunes that become boring after a few listens…..i think I was 12yrs old when i grew out of the Stones and needed something more than "jumping jack flash its a gas gas gas"…..their best stuff was actually the disco stuff like "miss you"

  10. Led Zeppelin I was nearly totally plagiarized as I found out years later. No doubting the transformation into 'Heavy Blues,' but come on, Guys, gotta give proper credits rather than having lawsuits decide who owes whom.

  11. Re: why Mick Jagger didn't like Led Zeppelin after first hearing them- it could definitely be that he didn't like Robert Plant's voice. Being Mick Jagger it could also be that he recognized the band was on the verge of being epic as their sound was HUGE and quite possibly felt threatened. I wonder if his opinion changed when you couldn't turn a radio on without a Led Zeppelin song playing. I'd be really interested in what Keith Richard's opinion was. I would value his opinion a lot more than Mick Jagger's.

  12. Surprised to hear Harrison did not get it, but not surprised at all about Jagger. While I love the Stones, I find them to be not much more than a glorified bar band musically. Led Zeppelin, while taking so much from the Blues that inspired them, still found a way to make it their own. Their musicianship was so impressive; songwriting so interesting. But you are right that the arts are subjective. Some reading this may totally disagree with me, and that’s cool. I will have to read that book.
