Though I am more liberal, maybe the winning of a moderate means more people are moving toward a less divisive atmosphere.

When invited to say something about a moderate philosophy beating a progressive one she declined the bait, and I wholeheartedly approve. The US isn't a monolith: some areas are more moderate and some areas are more progressive. Neither campaign strategy is inherently superior in that sort of environment, so you need a candidate that can represent the values of the people they serve, while at the same time being a leader and not just a rubberstamp following polling data.
Seems like it would be a difficult thing to do.
