Metallica and an Orchestra?! Vocal ANALYSIS of James Hetfield with the San Francisco Symphony

There’s been a lot of calling for Metallica since I started with “Master of Puppets”, and I’ve started to pepper in some songs when I can. But once I heard that Metallica performed with the San Francisco Symphony, I moved it to the top of my list. I absolutely LOVE orchestras, and seeing how a metal band integrated in with all the moving pieces of an orchestra is just fascinating to me.

Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Metallica performing “No Leaf Clover” for the first time.

  1. This is from S&M2, which was done in 2020 for the 20th anniversary of the original S&M concert. I suppose it wouldn’t make good reaction material for your channel, but there is a really cool instrumental from this concert that you should check out sometime called (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth. The original is a bass solo from their first album written and performed by Cliff Burton, who died during the Master of Puppets tour. The S&M2 version is a tribute to Cliff done on a cello and it’s super awesome.

  2. I remember hearing the first release of this in 1999 as a teenager. I think that version is a bit tighter and all around better put together than this one and would have been the better listen, but it's still a great song.

  3. Electric, not electronic. Loud guitar!!! As a matter of fact, one of the most famous loud electric guitars of them all, Peter Green and later Gary Moore's 1959 Gibson Les Paul known as Greeny. 🙂

  4. The DVD set for the original S&M concerts has the option for you to either listen to just the symphony or the band. Listening to the symphony, you realize all of the pieces Michael Kamen wrote weren't just to accompany Metallica, they were full-fledged stand-alone music. It was really just fantastic work on his part.

  5. 🎉 Hi, You must watch and listen the Tenacious D’s Time Wrap… fantastic and very fun… please do yourself this favor. Love what you’re doing. Also, this Metallica Song is my favorite.

  6. Ok so you have now done Lorna Shore, Opeth and now Metallica with a symphony, am I wrong I'm thinking you are ready to hear Dimmu Borgir? Forces of the Northern Night show is played with a full symphony AND a full opera section. Can I get some up votes for Elizabeth to be emersed inside the apocalypse? Progenies of the Great Apocalypse perhaps? "Forces of the Northern Night, ASSEMBLE!"

  7. Non-subscriber but longtime Metallica fan here. The original S&M version is so much better than this, it’s like apples and oranges, and remains one of James’s greatest vocal performances, live or in studio. Would be nice to see a comparison.

  8. Unforgiven 3 from this show was spectacular in my eyes. They took the guitars, bass and drums out of the equation and let the symphony do the work while James sang. They slayed it. Scott Pingle doing anesthesia by Cliff Burton was another goosebump worthy moment. Those two would definitely be worthy of your reaction.

  9. You should check out the bridge school version of disposable hero's. Iv always thought of James hetfield as a poet and a really good one. Listening to his music is like watching a big man who's light on his feet. Sheer power
