  1. Perhaps the most likely mechanism for the triggering of a new ice age by a supervolcano like Toba has to be the thermohaline circulation. If the sun is blocked globally for decades even in the tropics and the tropical sea surface temperatures in places like the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Caribbean are pushed below 20C — something that very likely could have happened when Toba blew — then the AMOC would have been completely robbed of its sole energy source, which would cause it to shut down.

    Sure, the tropics are going to warm back up when all the sulfur falls out of the sky in that case, but because of the sudden lack of heat transport due to thermohaline circulation collapse and the literal shutdown of all ocean currents, none of that heat would get transported to the poles or mid-latitudes after the dust settles.

  2. History channel picking up discovery channels slack or something.

    I miss the old school history channel of the late 90s and early 00’s. That was its peak, after 2007-2008, it all started going downhill cause everyone wanted to replicate the success of deadliest catch.
