  1. Reading through these comments, my ragdoll Coco must have been the exception to the “cranky” rule 😆. She was one of the sweetest cats I’ve had and loved everyone. Only issue she had at the groomer was that she was older when we rescued her and couldn’t hold it when she had to go to bathroom and was nervous 😬

  2. The worst part isn't even the behavior (although it's an extra kick in the teeth that people still have this procedure done when it's known to result in worse behavior outcomes). It's the permanent suffering it causes the cat. "Declawing" doesn't just remove the claw it removes the front part of the toe bones. It often makes it uncomfortable for the cat to walk & will likely also lead to severe pain & lameness in their elder years.
The declawing procedure is wildly unethical & any vet/vet clinic who performs it should be black listed & publicly shamed.

  3. It's heartbreaking. Declawing does not help keep cats in homes. Many end up like Franklin, surrendered, relinquished, abused, abandoned or worse.

Was Franklin the cat ever assessed for chronic pain management or radiographed to see if declaw salvage surgery is warranted? Chronic pain and arthritis as well as misalignment elsewhere in their body frequently occurs with declawed cats. I've seen evidence in black and white that shows some of the reasons for the detrimental effects.

I had paw radiographs done on two rescued front declawed cats my family took in. The x-rays show that the toes on the front feet contract so they're completely at the wrong angle. The toe pads are shrunken and sometimes barely cover the ends of the amputated toe bones. It makes me feel ill to know some vets in my province are still doing this to cats.

It's common to see toe pad calluses where unnatural pressure exists. It's no wonder such cats might not want to run, jump and play if their feet are hurting!

When cats stretch, scratch and climb using their front claws, it helps maintain muscle tone in their legs, neck and elsewhere. Without that their body can lose integrity. They can end up with slipped discs and other injuries. They are more likely to fall too. You can observe that declawed cats walk differently than cats with intact feet.

Yes, many declawed cats are more likely to bite, and that increases hospital visits. My mom ended up on IV antibiotics when my brother's rescued declawed cat sunk his fangs in her arm when she tried to shoo the cat away from his front door.

The goal should be not only to prohibit declawing here in Ontario and everywhere else, but also to increase the quality of life for cats who have been harmed and who continue to suffer with chronic pain from these unnecessary amputations. There is a nonprofit veterinary foundation called The Paw Project that educates about all this. Member vets try to help domestic and wild species in captivity who been subjected to declawing as well as educate fellow veterinarians and the public about the long term physical and mental consequences of declawing, and how to try to help these cats. Everyone who is against animal cruelty needs to learn more and speak up for legislation to protect animals from this.

Thank you to everyone helping those in need. ♥️

  4. My cat was declawed under similar circumstances: done by first owner, then surrendered to Humane Society when she was approx 1 year old. Her first defensive (or offensive) move is generally the skippity bap, then the bite. She’s has a heckuva right hook, and she’s definitely right-handed. She’s 16 now, and I adore her. It’s complicated having a declawed cat; a lot of toys & enrichment devices assume claws for obvious reasons. EDITED TO ADD: My state (New York) was the first to implement a statewide ban, in just 2019.

  5. Before getting all nasty to cat owners, perhaps speak about the vets that don’t fully explain what’s involved in a declaw. I’ve been an owner that’s requested a declaw, and none of the kitties were aggressive/biters. They can defend with their back claws when/if needed.

Now that I know more about the process, I’d never proceed with the procedure, but if a vet will do it, how can a loving owner know? Again, 30 yrs ago, the internet wasn’t a thing…

This is a beautiful cat…a bit mean, but stunning.

  6. Cats shouldn't be groomed .they groom themselves . Keeping cats in a bag is ridiculous . Don't blame the animals or try and humanise them they should never be bred for your pleasure bloody femanists entitled women

  7. If you own a ragdoll there is no reason you are not brushing it every day cats do not need to go to the groomers. Thank God my sister owns a groomer and the groomers around here refused to do cats.
