With three afflictions, things are looking worse. But we have a bow, so moose hunting is on the agenda. The main issue is finding the elusive thing. Time to look around… a lot.

I’m early
watching 1.75 speed recommended.
It’s 4:30 in my time zone I have to get up at 7 am I cooked?
When you started your 500 Days Interloper run, I started my stalker run as well and now I'm on 250+ Days!!
The tips have been super useful. Now I am trying to survive interloper as you started the misery series. Already on day 25 and crafted the bow after getting the backpack!
yaaay, the 30-th like!
I followed your "mastering interloper 2024" and now Im able to survive and thrive, the only problem is when I didn't spawn in HRV/AC, I had low chance of survival, so here's hoping you'd make guide for each region starting point for interloper.
Wouldn’t this be a good time to use a stim? Get that health up without sleeping?
Even with two separate 1000-day runs on Interloper, I'm floundering on Misery.
I've made it 20 days on my first run, and 22 on my second. I haven't started a third yet. I'm sure someone like you or Wonz will eventually 'master' this mode, but I just don't think it's for me.
Interloper was always hard, but it rewarded you if you made it past certain milestones: craft your first bow and arrows and your survivability increases exponentially. Craft your first item of clothing and you won't be able to not feel the cold, but you might be able to sleep in the back of a cave without a fire so long as it's not a blizzard. Get double bearskin coats, deerskin pants and boots, rabbitskin mittens and hat (if necessary) and you won't move very well, but you'll be able to go out in the evening without losing temperature and do some harvesting. Get to cooking level 5 and it is an absolute game-changer. Yes, the wildlife could still end your run in seconds if you weren't careful, but it was possible to survive and even thrive.
Now, Misery feels impossible. Even the vaunted cooking level 5 has been nerfed by an affliction. There doesn't seem to be any way I can see to survive, let alone thrive, on this mode. It just feels like a "play it for the experience and then you die". That, for me, is not what The Long Dark is about. It's a punishing survival game, but before now it's never been unfair.
1:16:20 I think there was a moose on your right.
is he using a lighting mod? i noticed that the building/cave interior can be really bright though the sun is barely up while on my game i cant see anything unless the sun is fully up
comment for the algorithm
I was always under the impression that your warmth loss is linearly correlated to the feels like temperature. So clothing would mattet in any case. A 2 degrees warmth Bonus when feels like is -20 would be 10% more time outside (without aids)
Also, the effect of "warming Up" would be Higher, relatively.
I was watching the last episode and remember thinking “oh man, that would really suck if he got food poisoning and haunted mind hit at the same time, but what are the chances of that?” I should have known better, this game loves to mess with you 😂
24:16 I find if you take it an an angle down steep hills you are less likely to get stuck with the travois in most places (not all some must be hard coded to not allow the travois). I’d say about a 25-30 degree angle when parallel to the hill would be 0 degree is the angle I go for. Try to project obstacles like rocks and trees in that trajectory to determine your starting point. Go parallel to hill if you have to kinda get around something.
i found moose up by the dam at the river near acorn tree
Another great Misery video to chill enjoy along to Zak, much appreciated
Loving the intro
I haven't seen anyone kill a moose yet in this mode, honestly thought the moose was turned off, just so you couldn't get the sachel. So I'm excited to actually see you hunt a moose down.
Great job managing the cold, Zak! I definitely took a few pointers away from this run so far. My first Misery attempt just ended last night on day 11 just before I was ready for a forge run. Wolfie ate my face next to the Camp Office carrying some guts & meat…lol
that rose hip tee helps against pain und rose hip pie gives headache is a bit funny …
Although "Brown Mist" usually isn't associated with something appealing, you would be wrong during a foggy Forlorn Muskeg sunset.
we are all masters of misery but just don't know it yet
Zak do you know if saplings respawn
I’m wondering if actually repairing and maxing out your clothing may be a profitable tactic. Yes , you lose some time , but you may lose heat just a little bit slower. As they say every little bit helps.
This info can help you. I tested it on stalker but using Bedroll with Snowshelter on gives me 14+5 celsius warm bonnus so it would be probably possible to go to fishing hut bring in tons of cloths sticks and guts metal scrap and you could be just repairing shelter and bedroll with fishing lines. I will try to test it also on misery so I will report on my findings so you can adjust.
I don’t know if anyone has told you but your intro theme is awesome. Sets the mood well.
almost all long dark YouTubers look like they’ve been living in the long dark for months lol, nice vid!
Zak check mic monitoring setting may help you hear your voice..
The elusive moose is on the loose, but Zak is on it's trail. As the tale unfolds through bitter cold, will he succeed or fail?
Watch speed .25 even better lol
am i crazy or is the ability to warm teas by putting them near a fireplace a mod or an actual feature? swear i’ve tried once or twice and it didn’t work
I love Zak, but I keep getting a tad frustrated watching hot teas get put in the thermos then never used lol
I'm finally caught up on the 500 days series, its been a daily staple for me over the last 3 months while doing my master's thesis. Wasn't sure what to do in my off time but was great to see the new Misery episode come out !
Well you are to heavy cause the peatches for example, they weight mutch to mutch i would make the pie´s from them 1. so you don´t need to carry them around (1 kg!!!) than the unprepared stuff is heavy as hell too, so just keep 8 or 16 of them for emergency cooking for pies unprepared.
Interesting also is that you often accept to take colddamage what´s not nessesary :-/ even that you got more tea than needed and in my experience there is more rosehip und mushrooms thats you ever need 😉
I love seeing you problems solving. Quick wits and very knowledgeable. This serie is great:)
Antlers in the tree tops by, who goosed the moose
Ok so in the blizard you went into a cave where there was feels like temp. Of -1 in the bedroll. Thease caves are giving in the back + 8-9 celsium warm bonus. Snow shelter gives + 14 w.b. on stalker dif. It would be probably better to sleep outside in the snow shelter.
Ok so on misery dif. It felt like -19c and inside of the snow shelter it felt like +8c. So snow shelter and upgraded bedroll and decent gear near lake ice fishing holes with automatic fishing sticks can be how you survive. Fire is nececery only for cooking and making water or teas. Wormth would be only additional bonus. Sticks and cloths for repairing bedroll and snowshelter would be kinda preblematic.
So I’ve gotta ask, why do you make the rose hip pies over the peach pies? They do the same thing (reducing fatigue and giving a headache) and keeping the actual cans of peaches in your inventory is bad cause they’re the heaviest canned item at 0.50, you ate them just as peaches at the end so I’m curious why you did it like that instead of making them into pies for a better benefit and being able to save more rose hips for teas later on
@Zaknafein .Hi Zak, I think i see a Moose marking on your left. Time stamp: 1:34:25. 😊
Lovely scenery
I really love the intro music and the graphic of ticking up the days survived/afflictions. It’s really clean and always gets me hyped. Great video as always; thanks for posting! Hope you’re enjoying your summer with the family!
This series is so amazing and addictive. I was afraid you would have been long dead but you defeated all challenges, you are actually thriving right now which is excellent news. It would be cool to see you go to 500 days in Mysery Mode
